The COVID-19 pandemic, which began in February 2020, has radically changed the processes related to higher education. The main purpose of our study is to help scholar communities distinguish between educational approaches that seek to sustain the “unsustainable” and to identify the problems of lecturer–student interaction in the midst of the mass transition to distance learning and to find ways to solve them. The results of our research show that the transition to distance education during the pandemic took place; however, it highlighted a whole complex of problems connected with deterioration of emotional state and reduction of incentives to study. That might challenge the existing status quo, a revision of the principles of “Humboldt universities” and the birth of new forms of education. The study consists of three parts that allow analyzing the lecturer–student relations, as well as the management of the learning process. The first part analyzes the characteristics and attitudes towards distance education in different countries. The second part presents the results of students’ emotional state in two countries with different population restriction regimes. The third part is devoted to the study of students’ time planning in the distance-learning environment. We used the following methods to achieve the goals of the study: a questionnaire survey of students and lecturers, HADS (The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale), and self-timing method. The thesis about the “gameover” in universities education management is open for discussion by the scientific community.

This article discusses the current state and trends in the development of the electric power industry in Kazakhstan. An analysis of the energy supply and energy intensity of Kazakhstan’s GDP is provided in this paper. The results of the foresight of the risks and opportunities of the energy industry are described. This study identifies the relationship between the traditional development of the energy industry and the development of alternative energy sources. In addition, the work examines the risks and consequences of various trends in the development of national and global energy. Previous studies have shown that government efforts are insufficient in developing an alternative energy sector in Kazakhstan. The research results show that there is a need to transform energy production from traditional sources towards greater efficiency and environmental friendliness, as well as the active involvement of the business community in the development of an alternative energy market. This is expected to attract more investments and transfer technologies to maintain the country’s position in the energy market of the future.

Purpose: The purpose of the work is to determine the most promising marketing strategy for managing sustainable development in the context of the 2020 economic crisis. Design/Methodology/Approach: The top 10 countries with the most sustainable economic development in 2019 were selected as the objects for study. Using the regression analysis method, the dependence of manifestations of sustainable development on marketing strategies for managing sustainable development is determined. Projections of changes in the manifestations of sustainable development are made. Then, the growth of marketing management indicators necessary to prevent a decline in sustainable development indicators is determined. Calculations are made separately (isolated optimization by simplex method) for each indicator of marketing management and each manifestation of sustainable development. As a result, the results for sustainable development in the implementation of each marketing strategy are compared and the strategy that provides the greatest benefits for sustainable development is selected. Findings: it was revealed that the commercial marketing strategy provides an increase in the global competitiveness index by 3.83%, economic growth rate by 51.37%, GDP per capita by 115.73%. Despite the decline of the sustainable development index by 35.24%, the average increase in all indicators of sustainable development is 33.92%. Originality/Value: It is justified that the most promising and preferred marketing strategy for managing sustainable development in the context of the 2020 economic crisis is commercial marketing, which involves the inclusion of marketing costs in the cost of products and the transfer of costs to consumers. The remaining strategies - non-profit marketing, social marketing of the state and stimulation of marketing activity of the business - successfully implemented in a period of stability, in the context of the economic crisis of 2020 lead to negative results, instead of increasing, reducing the level of sustainable development.

This paper aims to investigate the relationship between the existence of firm digitalization and firm internationalization in selected companies in the European Union (EU). The study provides evidence that upper echelon characteristics bring new competences and skills, including digital skills, which are essential for company internationalization in the modern world of turmoil, crisis and uncertainty. The research paper argues that top management team (TMT) characteristics, and particularly digitalization awareness and skills among the senior management, are critical factors for driving success in international markets and for the sustainability of the business. The dataset in this paper includes around one hundred executive and non-executive profiles in selected European countries, distributed in different industrial sectors. The empirical data have been collected from available online secondary sources on private companies in Germany, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The paper’s findings suggest that a relationship exists between TMT digitalization and firm internationalization. Additionally, the paper’s results illustrate that the companies with an on board Chief Information Officer or Chief Digitalization Officer tend to be more international in comparison to those which do not possess these two job positions in their top management.

The study of new business forms requires an assessment of the factors that cause the entire modern economic system to change. New technological capabilities transform the nature of production interactions and knowledge turns into the main resource of economic development. The modern economy generates knowledge and databases that bring economic value and can enhance business performance. Newly-built knowledge is also a product that can be sold or bought. Smart technologies of modern times are developing towards smart goods, smart cities, and smart regions and give rise to breakthrough conditions in business development. Up-to-date entrepreneurship transfers business activity from the individual area into one of collective success. Now there are no local business tasks since local markets went away. Smart technologies build global markets, and the entrepreneur takes on global development challenges. Business is a risk, balanced combination of production factors, innovation, and management in the globalization of innovative processes, as truly as collective activities on the alignment of development in dealing with global challenges. The business initiative is aimed at conceiving new ideas, designing innovative products based on them, and incorporating new forms of business.

This paper aims to determine and explain the main factors for power losses (the so-called “leaky bucket” effect) in Kazakhstan and the reasons for inefficient energy distribution within the country. Energy efficiency in Kazakhstan is much lower compared to more economically developed countries. The differences between energy efficiency in various regions of Kazakhstan are also significant. This article explores the impact of administrative monopoly tariffs on the regional energy efficiency, based on a national study conducted in Kazakhstan in 2017. The purpose of the study was to identify the administrative barriers and their impact on the sustainability of enterprise development. What hinders the distribution of energy resources among different regions is artificial barriers in the energy market and the administrative tariff monopoly for electric power. This leads to the inefficient distribution of resources throughout the country. In addition, it is difficult to leverage low distribution efficiency in the absence of a market. The authors attempt to prove that the magnitude of administrative barriers directly affects the efficiency and competitiveness of business, as well as the final prices of goods and services for the end consumer.

The problems of efficient use of energy costs have been actively explored in recent decades in connection with rising energy prices. During this period, the main models for assessing energy efficiency and energy management were developed, including the models Total Quality Management, Six Sigma and Sustainable Value Stream Mapping. The aim of the research was to study the energy efficiency of the production and services in Kazakhstan based on materials of the large-scale national study on the estimation of production and transaction costs by these methodologies. To assess the data obtained, a statistical analysis of the dependence on the indicators of variation and ranking was used. Electricity costs are among the leading manufacturing costs and affect management models. However, according to the maturity model of energy management, energy efficiency in Kazakhstan is low. Despite the government’s declarations of effective energy policies, the administrative burden for businesses remains high, and legislation does not stimulate a reduction in energy costs.

Purpose: The purpose of the article is to determine the perspectives of socialization of AI and to model its communications. The author’s hypothesis H1 is that AI of the future will have a vivid social origin. Design/methodology/approach: The authors perform critical analysis of the statistics of AI in 2016–2019, using the methods of modeling of socio-economic processes, logical analysis, and formalization. Findings: The offered hypothesis is confirmed. It is proved that AI is characterized by a vivid social origin. Machine communications (without human participation) form the main value of AI in the conditions of Industry 4.0 and thus will be further developed in the near future. Originality/value: The models of production (internal) and marketing (external) communications of AI are developed and presented. It is substantiated that AI could be a participant of “machine dialog”, which envisages mutual exchange of information between it and digital devices and, if necessary, the query for additional information. This is the basis of human communications and thus creates preconditions for formation of machine society and socialization of AI in it.
