According to the advantages of integrating wireless sensors networks (WSN) and radio frequency identification (RFID), this paper proposes a novel method for methane gas density monitoring and predicting based on a passive RFID sensor tag and a convolutional neural networks (CNN) algorithm. The proposed wireless sensor is based on electronic product code (EPC) generation2 (G2) protocol and the sensor data is embedded into the identification (ID) information of the RFID chip. The wireless sensor consists of a communication section, radio-frequency (RF) front-end section, and digital section. The communication section is used to perform the transmission and reception of wireless signals, modulation, and demodulation. The RF front-end section is adopted to provide the stable supply voltage for other parts. The digital section is employed to achieve sensor data and control the overall operation of the wireless sensor based on EPC protocol. Because the miscellaneous noises will decrease the accuracy during the process of data wireless transmission, the CNN algorithm is adopted to extract the robust feature from raw data. The measurement results show that the exploited RFID sensor can realize a maximum communication distance of 10.3 m and can accurately measure and predict the methane gas density in an underground mine. The RFID sensor technology is a beneficial supplement to the current underground WSN monitoring system.
This paper presents an ultra-low embedded power temperature sensor for passive RFID tags. The temperature sensor converts the temperature variation to a PTAT current, which is then transformed into a temperature-controlled frequency. A phase locked loop (PLL)-based sensor interface is employed to directly convert this temperature-controlled frequency into a corresponding digital output without an external reference clock. The fabricated sensor occupies an area of 0.021 mm2 using the TSMC 0.18 1P6M mixed-signal CMOS process. Measurement results of the embedded sensor within the tag system shows a 92 nW power dissipation under 1.0 V supply voltage at room temperature, with a sensing resolution of 0.15 °C/LSB and a sensing accuracy of −0.7/0.6 °C from −30 °C to 70 °C after 1-point calibration at 30 °C.
This paper proposes an external breaking vibration identification method of transmission line tower based on a radio frequency identification (RFID) sensor and deep learning. The RFID sensor is designed to obtain the vibration signal of the transmission line tower. In order to achieve long-time monitoring and longer working distance, the proposed RFID sensor tag employs a photovoltaic cell combined with a super capacitor as the power management module. convolution neural network (CNN) is adopted to extract the characteristics of vibration signals and relevance vector machine (RVM) is then employed to achieve vibration pattern identification. Furthermore, the Softmax classifier and gradient descent method are used to adjust the weights and thresholds of CNN, so as to obtain a high-precision identification structure. The experiment results show that the minimum sensitivity of the proposed solar-powered RFID sensor tag is −29 dBm and the discharge duration of the super capacitor is 63.35 h when the query frequencies are 5/min. The optimum batch size of CNN is 5, and the optimum number of convolution cores in the first layer and the second layer are 2 and 4, respectively. The maximum number of iterations is 10 times. The vibration identification accuracy of the proposed method is over 99% under three different conditions.
