The autonomic Internet of Things is the creation of self-management capability in the Internet of Things system by embedding some autonomic properties, with the goal of freeing humans from all detail of the operation and management of the system. At same time, this provides a system to always operate on the best performance. This paper presents a review of the recent studies related to the design of network communication protocol, which can support autonomic Internet of Things. Many of the studies come from the research and development in Wireless Sensor Network protocols, as it becomes one of the key technologies for the Internet of Things. The identified autonomic properties are self-organization, self-optimization, and self-protection. We review some protocols with the objective of energy consumption reduction and energy harvesting awareness, as it can support the self-energy-awareness property. As the result, the protocol designs are mapped according to each autonomic property supported, including protocols for MAC layer, protocols for clustering, protocols for routing, and protocols for security. This can be used to map the advances of communication protocol research for the autonomic Internet of Things and to identify the opportunities for future research.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a technology that allows every object or item to become part of the Internet and interact with each other. One of the technologies based on the IoT is Long Range (LoRa). Apart from the increasing number of IoT services, security aspects become a separate issue in the development of the IoT. One of the solutions is to utilize blockchain technology in the IoT topology to secure the data and transactions that occur in the IoT network. The blockchain can take minutes to compute a cryptographic chain. It also needs sufficient computing resources. This problem gave rise to the idea of establishing a lightweight blockchain platform with low latency that could run on devices with low computing resources as well as IoT devices. We offered a technology called Lightweight Multi-Fog (LMF) in our previous publication that is implemented using the Lightweight Scalable Blockchain (LSB) algorithm and the fog network on the IoT to solve the problem of integrating a blockchain with the IoT. In this paper, we simulate how the broadcast domain on LMF works and verify the results in lower latency and energy transmission compared to the standard blockchain model. The results showed that the average increase of the total delivery time (Taverage) on the LMF platform was smaller than the average increase of the total delivery time (Taverage), which was 0.53% for the variations in the number of nodes and 0.27% for the variations in the number of brokers/miners. Regarding the average increase of the total energy delivery (Eaverage), the Proof of Work (PoW) platform has a smaller increase of the total energy delivery (Eaverage), which is 1.68% during the variations in the number of nodes. In contrast, the LMF platform has a smaller average increase of the total shipping energy (Eaverage), which is 0.28% for the variations in the number of brokers/miners.

This paper reviews some seawater quality evaluation methods such as Ocean Health Index (OHI) and Puget Sound Partnership (PSP). In this paper, we discuss our UI BlueMetric assessment tools which is a new tool proposed as performance indicators of coastal areas in terms of its biodiversity, water quality, waste, and human activity. This paper presents a benchmarking of BlueMetric with two existing marine assessment tools. We compare UI BlueMetric to the OHI and PSP in terms of the assessment of the seawater quality in the coastal area. The coastal area environmental quality has produced a growing body of literature with meta-analyses on methods. The considerations and evaluation systems that influenced its original design are presented. We also discussed the comparison framework. This paper presents the methodology used in different seawater quality evaluation, the intended users, as well as discussing the difference in the goals and missions of the assessment tools. This paper concludes that all of the three evaluation systems have some similarities in their indicators related to seawater evaluation. UI BlueMetric has the least number of parameters so that it is suitable to be applied in early assessment.

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is an aircraft without a human pilot onboard and a sort of unmanned vehicle. UAV Network research activities in the real world can pose several challenges, especially in urban environments or in densely populated environments. This is due to the nature of the UAV which requires a large area of operation. Therefore, digital simulation is vital in conducting research related to UAV and its networks. One of the UAV simulators recently developed is FlyNetSim. FlyNetSim is an open-source UAV Network Simulator based on NS-3 and Ardupilot. In the application, UAV can have some network-related problems. One of them is when a UAV is in an environment that has a lot of interfering networks because it is contending a network channel. This can cause network delay. These delays will raise with the increase in the number of nodes that interfere with the UAV. To overcome the problem of interfering nodes, we propose to add a priority set module for UAV and Ground Control Station (GCS). The proposed module will set priority for the UAV and GCS socket. This module is intended to give priority to packets sent by UAVs or GCS. Later the packet that has priority will be sent first to reduce the delay caused by the appearance of interfering nodes. Setting priority in the socket may reduce the average delay caused by contending nodes. Test result shows that there is a 16.2% reduction of average delay. Test result also shows that there is a 4% raise in packet delivery ratio.

LoRa technology has received a lot of attention in the last few years. Numerous success stories about using LoRa technology for the Internet of Things in various implementations. Several studies have found that the use of LoRa technology has the opportunity to be implemented in indoor-based applications. LoRa technology is found more stable and is more resilient to environmental changes. Environmental change of the indoor is a major problem to maintain accuracy in position prediction, especially in the use of Received Signal Strength (RSS) fingerprints as a reference database. The variety of approaches to solving accuracy problems continues to improve as the need for indoor localization applications increases. Deep learning approaches as a solution for the use of fingerprints in indoor localization have been carried out in several studies with various novelties offered. Let’s introduce a combination of the use of LoRa technology's excellence with a deep learning method that uses all variations of measurement results of RSS values at each position as a natural feature of the indoor condition as a fingerprint. All of these features are used for training in-deep learning methods. It is DeepFi-LoRaIn which illustrates a new technique for using the fingerprint data of the LoRa device's RSS device on indoor localization using deep learning methods. This method is used to find out how accurate the model produced by the training process is to predict the position in a dynamic environment. The scenario used to evaluate the model is by giving interference to the RSS value received at each anchor node. The model produced through training was found to have good accuracy in predicting the position even in conditions of interference with several anchor nodes. Based on the test results, DeepFi-LoRaIn Technique can be a solution to cope with changing environmental conditions in indoor localization

Coastal flooding is a natural disaster that often occurs in coastal areas. Jakarta is an example of a location that is highly vulnerable to coastal flooding. Coastal flooding can result in economic and human life losses. Thus, there is a need for a coastal flooding early warning system in vulnerable locations to reduce the threat to the community and strengthen its resilience to coastal flooding disasters. This study aimed to measure the level of public acceptance toward the development of a coastal flooding early warning system of people who live in a coastal region in Jakarta. This knowledge is essential to ensure that the early warning system can be implemented successfully. A survey was conducted by distributing questionnaires to people in the coastal areas of Jakarta. The questionnaire results were analyzed using cross-tabulation and path analysis based on the variables of knowledge, perceptions, and community attitudes towards the development of a coastal flooding early warning system. The survey result shows that the level of public acceptance is excellent, as proven by the average score of the respondents’ attitude by 4.15 in agreeing with the establishment of an early warning system to manage coastal flooding. Thus, path analysis shows that knowledge and perception have a weak relationship with community attitudes when responding to the coastal flooding early warning model. The results show that only 23% of the community’s responses toward the coastal flooding early warning model can be explained by the community’s knowledge and perceptions. This research is expected to be useful in implementing a coastal flooding early warning system by considering the level of public acceptance.

With the advancement of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology, BIM gains more importance and becomes a prerequisite in building projects. BIM is useful throughout a building lifecycle; from building bid, design, construction, completion, operation, and maintenance to building demolition. However, current information exchange surrounding BIM is still limited and bound to a single participant or organization and is also limited to a particular phase in the building lifecycle. This paper aims to explore BIM information exchange among many parties involved in a secure manner using a blockchain platform throughout the whole building lifecycle. In this research, many parties involved in the building project will be able to recognize one another through deployment of a permissioned blockchain. This information exchange uses Hyperledger Composer, a permissioned blockchain running on a blockchain platform called Hyperledger Fabric. Our experiment shows that BIM information exchange could be further improved. In this study, BIM information exchange can be implemented not only in one building phase but throughout the whole building lifecycle. It also facilitates BIM information exchange among multiple participants in a secure manner via a permissioned blockchain.

Purpose This paper proposes a discrimination index method based on the Jain's fairness index to distinguish researchers with the same H-index. Design/methodology/approach A validity test is used to measure the correlation of D-offset with the parameters, i.e. H-index, the number of cited papers, the total number of citations, the number of indexed papers, and the number of uncited papers. The correlation test is based on the Saphiro-Wilk method and Pearson's product-moment correlation. Findings The result from the discrimination index calculation is a two-digit decimal value called the discrimination-offset (D-offset), with a range of D-offset from 0.00 to 0.99. The result of the correlation value between the D-offset and the number of uncited papers is 0.35, D-offset with the number of indexed papers is 0.24, and the number of cited papers is 0.27. The test provides the result that it is very unlikely that there exists no relationship between the parameters. Practical implications For this reason, D-offset is proposed as an additional parameter for H-index to differentiate researchers with the same H-index. The H-index for researchers can be written with the format of “H-index: D-offset”. Originality/value D-offset is worthy to be considered as a complement value to add the H-index value. If the D-offset is added in the H-index value, the H-index will have more discrimination power to differentiate the rank of the researchers who have the same H-index.

The internet has become an inseparable part of human life, and the number of devices connected to the internet is increasing sharply. In particular, Internet of Things (IoT) devices have become a part of everyday human life. However, some challenges are increasing, and their solutions are not well defined. More and more challenges related to technology security concerning the IoT are arising. Many methods have been developed to secure IoT networks, but many more can still be developed. One proposed way to improve IoT security is to use machine learning. This research discusses several machine-learning and deep-learning strategies, as well as standard datasets for improving the security performance of the IoT. We developed an algorithm for detecting denial-of-service (DoS) attacks using a deep-learning algorithm. This research used the Python programming language with packages such as scikit-learn, Tensorflow, and Seaborn. We found that a deep-learning model could increase accuracy so that the mitigation of attacks that occur on an IoT network is as effective as possible.

Flooding is one of the most frequent disasters. There are many risks due to flood incidents. Floods can cause a lot of damage and casualties. Flood prevention measures are needed to reduce the impact of flooding. Throwing the garbage in its place, making tree planting movements and making Bio-pore are some examples that can be done in maintaining the surrounding environment. Our game proposes an alternative tool that can be used to educate and motivate people to take appropriate action in protecting the environment to avoid flooding. This paper discusses the design and implementation of game creation of environmental maintenance. The Flood Disaster Prevention Game developed with Unity. This paper proposes the firefly algorithm as an algorithm in a flood rescue simulation game. The proposed firefly algorithm will be used to pathfinding. The fire-fly algorithm is simulated with MATLAB R2016a. The simulation result shows the best position that can be reached is (0.00006, -0,00045) with the final value is 12. This position is assumed as the rescue location of flood victims.

Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) is a new technology developed to support low-power wide area networks (LPWAN) services. To extend its coverage and decrease its transmission power, devices in one NB-IoT cell are divided into several coverage enhancement (CE) levels with different random access configuration. This potentially results in unfair access, especially when massive number of devices in different CE levels simultaneously accessing the network. This work presents an effective strategy to configure the random access in NB-IoT to yield fair performance across CE levels. An analytical model is used to estimate the performance of each CE level and overall system performance in term of normalized throughput and average access delay. Simulation is incorporated to verify the accuracy of the model. Different practical assumptions of fair system are explored and examined in the experiment. The result shows that the analytical model is accurate under various loads. Additionally, the proposed search strategy is proven to be able to obtain the configuration which yield acceptable throughput fairly for all CE levels.

H-index has been widely used as one of the bibliometric measurement methods for researchers’ performance. On the other hand, H-index has been unfair for figuring authors that have high number of citations but fewer number of papers (perfectionist researcher) and researchers that have many papers but fewer citations (productive researcher). The main objective of this article is to improve H-index for accommodating and calculating perfectionist and productive researchers’ impact based on Jain’s Fairness Index algorithm and Lotka’s Law. For improving H-index by RA-index is proposed. To prove the proposed a method, 1,710 citation data sets of top cited researchers from Scopus based on author names list from Webometrics site are used. Fairness index of the RA-index has the average of 91 per cent, which is higher than the fairness of H-Index 80 per cent has been found.

Livestock is an essential commodity, especially in Indonesia, an agricultural country located in the Asia Pacific. Indonesia has vaster Greenland area than any other ASEAN countries. One way to increase livestock production is by implementing Smart Livestock Monitoring System which relies on Internet of Things technology such as LoRa. LoRa and other Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) technologies offer great advantages such as extended transmission range, extended node's battery life, and a massive number of nodes per gateway support. However, LoRa utilizes sub 1 GHz unlicensed spectrum which has been very crowded since the last decades and will be even more crowded soon following IoT trends. We propose to use mobile LoRa gateway to mitigate this issue. This paper simulates and compares deployments of LoRa using one mobile gateway with one and multiple static gateways. LoRa is simulated using one mobile gateway and compared with one and multiple static gateway deployments. Simulation result shows that one static gateway is better for narrow livestock area because it gives sufficient Data Extraction Rate (DER) value required for data transmission and lowest Network Energy Consumption (NEC) value. Otherwise, for vast livestock area, one mobile gateway is better because of smaller deployment cost and more than sufficient DER value.

Today, Clarivate Analysis (WoS), Scopus and Google Scholar use the H-Index method to figure the profile of the researchers. The advantages of the H-index are simple mathematic application and can be implemented in many areas. However, the H-index also has weaknesses, such as less sensitive to measure the impact of productive and perfectionist groups of researchers. Many proposals tried to improve the H-index method, such as the well-known G-index. H-index and G-index did not count the number of citations, which is the citations below the H-index value and do not count uncited papers to contribute the index value. This study proposes weighting on uncited papers and the number of citations below the H-index value (lower-h-tail area), as the data to be considered to be measured as an impact to differentiate researchers. The weighting is related to a new method of calculating the impact of the researcher from previous work, namely RA-index. The RA-Index method accommodates productive researchers based on Lotka's law and the Fairness Jain theory. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) method is used to optimize the weighting of the uncited papers. Weighted values for uncited papers and the number citation of papers with citation value of the H-index values obtained is 0.52. The result of discrimination test from the weighted value manually of 0.50 is 0.09, while the weighting of optimization results obtained is 0.08. From these results, it is concluded that the PSO method is feasible to be used in optimizing the weighting of the RA-Index method. The comparison results showed that the RA-Index is fairer than its competitors. The result of fairness calculation for RA-index (optimized) has fairness value of 0.92 higher than RA-index (not optimized) that has fairness value of 0.91.

This paper describes the setting and infrastructure management at the Universitas Indonesia (UI) as a continuous effort towards green and sustainable campus. Some developments and improvements have been made during the last three years, such as forest city maintenance, development of pedestrian boulevard, and installation of road marks and traffics signs. In addition, infrastructures have been improved by replacing conventional lamps with LED type ones, development of real-time energy consumption monitoring system, green chilling system, solar photo-voltaic development, solar cooling absorption chiller system, air conditioning with VRF/VRV system, and preparation for green certified building. These improvements on campus setting and landscape are reflected on the UI GreenMetric 2017 results which ranked at #23 worldwide with the score of 957 out of 1500 total score for “setting and infrastructure” category. With regards to these achievements, some challenges and strong commitment in sustainability policy need to be implemented in the forthcoming years to maintain the UI’s vision to be a “world class sustainable university”.

The diversity of applications and protocols is a big challenge for the Internet of Things (IoT) devices to communicate in collecting data or exchanging messages without a hitch of protocol differences. In addition, security features are required to secure data transmitted between the end devices and the server. In this study, we developed a secure multiprotocol gateway that supports for RF, ZigBee, BLE, and Ethernet protocols and utilizes TCP/IP protocols for advanced data processing after the gateway exit. Additionally, we added a data encryption algorithm for data security transmitted through the proposed gateway. To display the data the server receives, we added a dashboard to the gateway. The proposed multiprotocol gateway has been simulated using testbed environment in which the transmitted data was encrypted by default. The results showed that WiFi has the highest throughput compared to BLE and XBee, while the transmission delay tends to increase for all protocols but WiFI has the lowest delay compared to XBee and BLE.

In multi-hop routing, cluster heads close to the base station functionaries as intermediate nodes for father cluster heads to relay the data packet from regular nodes to base station. The cluster heads that act as relays will experience energy depletion quicker that causes hot spot problem. This paper proposes a dynamic multihop routing algorithm named Data Similarity Aware for Dynamic Multi-hop Routing Protocol (DSA-DMRP) to improve the network lifetime, and satisfy the requirement of multi-hop routing protocol for the dynamic node clustering that consider the data similarity of adjacent nodes. The DSA-DMRP uses fuzzy aggregation technique to measure their data similarity degree in order to partition the network into unequal size clusters. In this mechanism, each node can recognize and note its similar neighbor nodes. Next, K-hop Clustering Algorithm (KHOPCA) that is modified by adding a priority factor that considers residual energy and distance to the base station is used to select cluster heads and create the best routes for intra-cluster and inter-cluster transmission. The DSA-DMRP was compared against the KHOPCA to justify the performance. Simulation results show that, the DSA DMRP can improve the network lifetime longer than the KHOPCA and can satisfy the requirement of the dynamic multi-hop routing protocol.
