Prof. Dr. Alejandro Pereira earned his PhD in Design and Manufacturing from the University of Vigo, specializing in surface metrology of polymer replications of machined surfaces under different cutting strategies and conditions. He has been an Associate Professor at the University of Vigo since 2003, teaching manufacturing processes and production systems, and served as Head of the Department of Engineering Design from 2005 to 2010. His current research interests include surface metrology applied to manufacturing processes, quality control via industrial vision, CAD/CAM, machining, and polymer and metal additive manufacturing. He has taken part in numerous research and development projects funded by governmental and private entities, addressing topics such as optimization of machine tool verification systems, development of components and joining processes for the automotive industry, crankshaft forging processes and microalloyed steels, tribology of bearings and mechanical systems, development of variable-pitch propellers, thermoforming, injection molding, wireless communications for machine tools, and additive manufacturing. He has collaborated with laboratories and researchers from technological universities including École Centrale de Lyon, Politechnika Poznańska and Západočeská univerzita v Plzni, and has taken part in scientific conferences and authored more than fifty publications on various topics in mechanical manufacturing.
