He has more than 30 years of experience in the applied and basic research fields, including groundwater, IWRM, environmental and climatic changes, managed aquifer recharge, etc. He has international exposure by visiting different countries, including Thailand, PR China, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Iran, India, UAE, Nepal, and Indonesia, and has participated in/presented in a number of national and international knowledge-sharing workshops/seminars/courses/trainings, etc. Mr. Zakir is member of different national and international professional organizations like the Pakistan Engineering Council; Institution of Engineers Pakistan; European Water Resources Association (EWRA); Pakistan Engineering Congress; Australia Awards Alumni Association-Pakistan; National Groundwater Association (NGWA) USA; International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH); International Water Resources Association (IWRA). He served at the Charles Sturt University, Australia as vice president for the Postgraduate Student Association (PGSA), and was a member of Higher Degree by Research (HDR) Committee and School Board of the University.
