The graph neural network (GNN) has been widely applied to image analysis and recognition. Recently, a semi-supervised graph convolutional network (ssGCN) method has been proposed to change detection and obtains promising performance on Very High-Resolution remote sensing images. However, a SAR image which is subject to speckle noise and there is no explicit structure. In this paper, an end-to-end dynamic graph-level neural network (DGLNN) is proposed to exploit the local structure of each pixel neighborhood block at a graph-level and learn a more discriminative graph for change detection. Moreover, in the training of DGLNN, a K-Nearest Neighborhood is employed to reconstruct edges between nodes instead of the fixed edges between two nodes so that each node exploits the features from different neighbor nodes. The proposed method is verified by cross-domain SAR image change detection on four sets of SAR image and compared with five state-of-art deep learning-based SAR image change detection methods. The overall experimental results show that the proposed DGLNN obtains outstanding performance.

In synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image change detection, it is quite challenging to exploit the changing information from the noisy difference image subject to the speckle. In this paper, we propose a multi-scale spatial pooling (MSSP) network to exploit the changed information from the noisy difference image. Being different from the traditional convolutional network with only mono-scale pooling kernels, in the proposed method, multi-scale pooling kernels are equipped in a convolutional network to exploit the spatial context information on changed regions from the difference image. Furthermore, to verify the generalization of the proposed method, we apply our proposed method to the cross-dataset bitemporal SAR image change detection, where the MSSP network (MSSP-Net) is trained on a dataset and then applied to an unknown testing dataset. We compare the proposed method with other state-of-arts and the comparisons are performed on four challenging datasets of bitemporal SAR images. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed method obtain comparable results with S-PCA-Net on YR-A and YR-B dataset and outperforms other state-of-art methods, especially on the Sendai-A and Sendai-B datasets with more complex scenes. More important, MSSP-Net is more efficient than S-PCA-Net and convolutional neural networks (CNN) with less executing time in both training and testing phases.

Accurately predicting treatment outcome is crucial for creating personalized treatment plans and follow-up schedules. Electronic health records (EHRs) contain valuable patient-specific information that can be leveraged to improve outcome prediction. We propose a reliable multi-objective ensemble deep learning (MoEDL) method that uses features extracted from EHRs to predict high risk of treatment failure after radiotherapy in patients with lung cancer. The dataset used in this study contains EHRs of 814 patients who had not achieved disease-free status and 193 patients who were disease-free with at least one year follow-up time after lung cancer radiation therapy. The proposed MoEDL consists of three phases: (1) training with dynamic ensemble deep learning; (2) model selection with adaptive multi-objective optimization; and (3) testing with evidential reasoning (ER) fusion. Specifically, in the training phase, we employ deep perceptron networks as base learners to handle various issues with EHR data. The architecture and key hyper-parameters of each base learner are dynamically adjusted to increase the diversity of learners while reducing the time spent tuning hyper-parameters. Furthermore, we integrate the snapshot ensembles (SE) restarting strategy, multi-objective optimization, and ER fusion to improve the prediction robustness and accuracy of individual networks. The SE restarting strategy can yield multiple candidate models at no additional training cost in the training stage. The multi-objective model simultaneously considers sensitivity, specificity, and AUC as objective functions, overcoming the limitations of single-objective–based model selection. For the testing stage, we utilized an analytic ER rule to fuse the output scores from each optimal model to obtain reliable and robust predictive results. Our experimental results demonstrate that MoEDL can perform better than other conventional methods.

Water area segmentation in remote sensing is of great importance for flood monitoring. To overcome some challenges in this task, we construct the Water Index and Polarization Information (WIPI) multi-modality dataset and propose a multi-Modality Fusion and Gated multi-Filter U-Net (MFGF-UNet) convolutional neural network. The WIPI dataset can enhance the water information while reducing the data dimensionality: specifically, the Cloud-Free Label provided in the dataset can effectively alleviate the problem of labeled sample scarcity. Since a single form or uniform kernel size cannot handle the variety of sizes and shapes of water bodies, we propose the Gated Multi-Filter Inception (GMF-Inception) module in our MFGF-UNet. Moreover, we utilize an attention mechanism by introducing a Gated Channel Transform (GCT) skip connection and integrating GCT into GMF-Inception to further improve model performance. Extensive experiments on three benchmarks, including the WIPI, Chengdu and GF2020 datasets, demonstrate that our method achieves favorable performance with lower complexity and better robustness against six competing approaches. For example, on the WIPI, Chengdu and GF2020 datasets, the proposed MFGF-UNet model achieves F1 scores of 0.9191, 0.7410 and 0.8421, respectively, with the average F1 score on the three datasets 0.0045 higher than that of the U-Net model; likewise, GFLOPS were reduced by 62% on average. The new WIPI dataset, the code and the trained models have been released on GitHub.
