A waterborne epoxy coating with superior corrosion resistance was developed by using a novel amino-functionalized graphene oxide (GO) that was modified by 2,5-diaminobenzenesulfonic acid. A battery of characterization methods, such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Raman spectra, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), was used to prove that DGO was successfully prepared by grafting the amino of 2,5-diaminobenzenesulfonic on GO. The results indicated that the surface of DGO became rougher than GO, but a complete sheet structure was still maintained after modification; the optimal modified GO could be achieved when the mass ratio of 2,5-diaminobenzenesulfonic acid and GO was 5:1. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) tests indicated that the impedance at 0.01 Hz of a coating with 0.2 wt.% DGO still remained at a relatively high value after immersion for 48 h in 3.5 wt.% NaCl, which was about one order higher than a pure waterborne epoxy resin coating, and the corrosion current density decreased from 3.76 × 10−11 A/cm2 to 3.62 × 10−12 A/cm2. The dry adhesion and wet adhesion increased to 1.90 and 1.22 MPa, respectively, and the adhesion loss decreased from 53% to 36%. These interesting features could make waterborne epoxy coatings a promising anticorrosion coating for metal in long-term protection.

Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), a versatile polymer, is extensively used across many industries, such as chemicals, food, healthcare, textiles, and packaging. However, research on applying PVA to triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) remains limited. Consequently, we chose PVA as the primary material to explore its contact electrification mechanisms at the molecular level, alongside materials like Polyethylene (PE), Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), and Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Our findings show that PVA has the highest band gap, with the smallest band gap occurring between the HOMO of PVA and the LUMO of PTFE. During molecular contact, electron transfer primarily occurs in the outermost layers of the molecules, influenced by the functional groups of the polymers. The presence of fluorine atoms enhances the electron transfer between PVA and PTFE to maximum levels. Experimental validation confirmed that PVA and PTFE contact yields the highest triboelectric performance: VOC of 128 V, ISC of 2.83 µA, QSC of 82 nC, and an output power of 384 µW. Moreover, P-TENG, made of PVA and PTFE, was successfully applied in self-powered smart devices and monitored human respiration and bodily movements effectively. These findings offer valuable insights into using PVA in triboelectric nanogenerator technologies.

Graphene and its derivatives are widely used in various fields due to their unique two-dimensional lamellar structure. This study aims to synthesize ultra-large graphene oxide (GO) sheets from natural flake graphite and investigate the factors influencing their size. Using a two-intercalation method based on the modified Hummers' method, we address the challenge of intercalating large-diameter graphene oxide by employing a secondary intercalation technique. Three different approaches were explored to control the size of the produced GO sheets. The results revealed that the completeness of the expansion graphite structure after initial intercalation significantly influenced the final GO sheet size, with more complete expansion leading to larger sheets. Optimal processing conditions were identified, involving soaking natural flake graphite in a mixed solution (H2SO4:H2O2 = 4:1), followed by drying at 60 °C for 24 h. Under these conditions, ultra-large GO sheets were predominantly monolayer with an average size of 220.99 μm and a maximum size of 438 μm. These monolayer GO sheets can be chemically reduced to graphene, making them promising for applications in transparent conductive films, optoelectronic devices, and aligned graphene composites.

Waterborne epoxy resin (WEP) coatings are widely used in various fields due to their environmentally friendly properties, yet their corrosion resistance and shielding properties demand further refinement. In this work, melamine-modified graphene oxide (MGO) was synthesized using surface covalent functionalization, and a novel waterborne epoxy/modified graphene oxide coating (WEP/MGO) was prepared. The optimal modification effect was obtained by exploring different proportions of melamine, which led to significant improvements in the corrosion resistance of WEP. Furthermore, the corrosion protection efficiency of WEP/MGO coatings was systematically evaluated by examining the impact of different additions of MGO. The impedance modulus at the lowest frequency was increased from 3.77 × 108 Ω·cm2 of WEP to 2.85 × 109 Ω·cm2 after immersion in 3.5% NaCl for 48 h, when the addition of MGO was 0.1 wt.%. And the corrosion expansion at both the scratch and corrosion spot frequencies of the WEP-coated samples displayed a remarkable attenuation following exposure to salt spray for 300 h. The corrosion resistance and barrier properties of WEP coatings have been considerably enhanced.

With the rapid development of flexible electronic devices, flexible lithium-ion batteries are widely considered due to their potential for high energy density and long life. Anode materials, as one of the key materials of lithium-ion batteries, need to have good flexibility, an excellent specific discharge capacity, and fast charge–discharge characteristics. Carbon fibers are feasible as candidate flexible anode materials. However, their low specific discharge capacity restricts their further application. Based on this, N-doped carbon nanofiber anodes with microporous, mesoporous, and macroporous structures are prepared in this paper. The hierarchical and heterogeneous porosity structure can increase the active sites of the anode material and facilitate the transport of ions, and N-doping can improve the conductivity. Moreover, the N-doped flexible carbon nanofiber with a porous structure can be directly used as the anode for lithium-ion batteries without adding an adhesive. It has a high first reversible capacity of 1108.9 mAh g−1, a stable cycle ability (954.3 mAh g−1 after 100 cycles), and excellent rate performance. This work provides a new strategy for the development of flexible anodes with high performance.
