Maurizio Schmid received his Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Bologna, Bologna, Italy in 2004. He is currently a Full Professor in Biomedical Engineering at the Department of Industrial, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering, Roma Tre University, Rome, Italy, where he directs BioLab3—The Laboratory of Biomedical Engineering. In addition, he is a Senior Member of IEEE. His research interests include the development of device algorithms and classification methods in the area of human movement analysis, where he is now involved in studies on the use of inertial sensors as tools for disease staging and ambient assisted living.
