Biography

I am a senior scientist (full professor) at the Department of Agronomical Sciences and Natural Resources, Universidad de La Frontera-Chile. I started my career at the Facultad de Ciencias, Universidad de Chile-Santiago, where I completed my bachelor's and doctoral studies in Sciences, obtaining a major in Biology and a minor in Plant Sciences. My training is in Plant Physiology and Plant Molecular Biology, particularly with a focus on plant responses to environmental abiotic factors (temperature, light, water) limitations. I am interested in plants from extreme natural environments, such as high elevations, Antarctica, and desert ecosystems, and I study their freezing tolerance, low-temperature-induced photoinhibition, and photosynthesis limitations. Currently, I conduct research on the impacts of the accelerated warming experienced by the Antarctic Peninsula on native plant populations, and I investigate how plants from high-elevation and desert environments can withstand their own habitat.
