The Fourth Industrial Revolution has transformed industries and supply chains by integrating advanced operations, tools, and logistics services. Despite these advancements, challenges persist, particularly in ensuring data dependability, security, and operational efficiency. Digital twins (DTs), which replicate real-world components and processes, have emerged as essential tools for enhancing predictive analytics, simulation, and product lifecycle management in Industry 4.0. However, traditional DT development relies on centralized systems, which are vulnerable to data tampering and security breaches, especially in the management of transaction logs and historical data. To address these challenges, this review provides a comprehensive analysis of the current state of integrating blockchain with DTs. Using a qualitative research methodology, including desk research, case studies, and interviews with industry experts, we analyze various blockchain-based DT applications across industries and specifically in supply chain management. The findings reveal that blockchain-enhanced DTs can significantly improve data integrity, traceability, and security, thus boosting operational efficiency and quality control in supply chains. Additionally, this study identifies key integration techniques and the role of blockchain in automating processes through smart contracts. This review provides insights into the practical implications of blockchain-based DTs, highlighting their potential to enhance the reliability and scalability of Industry 4.0 operations.

The A-star algorithm (A*) is a traditional and widely used approach for route planning in various domains, including robotics and automobiles in smart agriculture. However, a notable limitation of the A-star algorithm is its tendency to generate paths that lack the desired smoothness. In response to this challenge, particularly in agricultural operations, this research endeavours to enhance the evaluation of individual nodes within the search procedure and improve the overall smoothness of the resultant path. So, to mitigate the inherent choppiness of A-star-generated paths in agriculture, this work adopts a novel approach. It introduces utilizing Bezier curves as a postprocessing step, thus refining the generated paths and imparting their smoothness. This smoothness is instrumental for real-world applications where continuous and safe motion is imperative. The outcomes of simulations conducted as part of this study affirm the efficiency of the proposed methodology. These results underscore the capability of the enhanced technique to construct smooth pathways. Furthermore, they demonstrate that the generated paths enhance the overall planning performance. However, they are also well suited for deployment in rural conditions, where navigating complex terrains with precision is a critical necessity.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is what we have as a great breakthrough in the 5G network. Although the 5G network can support several Internet of Everything (IoE) services, 6G is the network to fully support that. This paper is a survey research presenting the 5G and IoT technology and the challenges coming, with the 6G network being the new alternative network coming to solve these issues and limitations we are facing with 5G. A reference to the Control Plane and User Plane Separation (CUPS) is made with IPv4 and IPv6, addressing which is the foundation of the network slicing for the 5G core network. In comparison to other related papers, we provide in-depth information on how the IoT is going to affect our lives and how this technology is handled as the IoE in the 6G network. Finally, a full reference is made to the 6G network, with its challenges compared to the 5G network.

The recent advances in 5G and beyond wireless networking have enabled the possibility of using the cellular network as the infrastructure for wireless sensor networks, due to the high bandwidth availability and the reduced cost per data unit. In this paper, we perform an evaluation of the 5G infrastructure for sensor networks in order to quantify the performance in terms of energy efficiency and bandwidth within a testing environment. We used an ESP32 sensor with BLE-connected sensing devices for environmental conditions, and a Raspberry Pi with the Waveshare SIM8200EA-M2 5G module for cellular connectivity. We measured the power usage of each component of the system, in real conditions, as well as the power consumption for different bandwidth usage scenarios, and the end-to-end delay of the system. The results showed that the system is capable of achieving the required delay and bandwidth; however, the energy efficiency of the specific setup leaves room for improvement.

In this work we expand on previous results, which were obtained by applying an exploratory factor analysis process. The analysis was carried out on a dataset constructed by means of a quantitative questionnaire regarding consumers’ degree of engagement with social media and their respective online decisions and actions. Thus, the model under study here integrates these three derived constructs; “engagement”, “decision”, and “action” as its building blocks. The aim of this work is twofold: to validate model’s fit leveraging a confirmatory factor analysis process and to investigate the relations between the three factors with structural equation modelling. With respect to the first objective, the measurement part of the model is verified, and its fit is tested and accepted under several heterogeneous indices. Secondly, the structural part of the model is validated against theoretical hypotheses regarding the relations between the three latent variables. Results show that both “engagement” and “decision” predict “action”, with the former however being more important. To the best of our knowledge, the specific model built around these three constructs is not found elsewhere in literature and can prove to be a valuable source of information for e.g., marketers in their effort to apply an efficient marketing strategy.

This paper presents Sem4EDA, an ontology-driven and rule-based framework for automated fault diagnosis and energy-aware optimization in Electronic Design Automation (EDA) and Internet of Things (IoT) environments. The escalating complexity of modern hardware systems, particularly within IoT and embedded domains, presents formidable challenges for traditional EDA methodologies. While EDA tools excel at design and simulation, they often operate as siloed applications, lacking the semantic context necessary for intelligent fault diagnosis and system-level optimization. Sem4EDA addresses this gap by providing a comprehensive ontological framework developed in OWL 2, creating a unified, machine-interpretable model of hardware components, EDA design processes, fault modalities, and IoT operational contexts. We present a rule-based reasoning system implemented through SPARQL queries, which operates atop this knowledge base to automate the detection of complex faults such as timing violations, power inefficiencies, and thermal issues. A detailed case study, conducted via a large-scale trace-driven co-simulation of a smart city environment, demonstrates the framework’s practical efficacy: by analyzing simulated temperature sensor telemetry and Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) configurations, Sem4EDA identified specific energy inefficiencies and overheating risks, leading to actionable optimization strategies that resulted in a 23.7% reduction in power consumption and 15.6% decrease in operating temperature for the modeled sensor cluster. This work establishes a foundational step towards more autonomous, resilient, and semantically-aware hardware design and management systems.
