AbstractThe purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of subjective well-being with resilience, self-concept and social support, determining variables that predict subjective well-being. The study used an ex post facto, observational and cross-sectional design, using the following scales: Satisfaction with Life (Diener, Emmon, Larsen, & Grifin, 1995), Affect-Balance (Bradburn, 1969), Connor-Davidson Resilience (Connor & Davidson, 2003), Perceived Social Support from Family and Friends Scale (González & Landero, 2014), as well as a Multidimensional Self-Concept Questionnaire (authors). The sample comprised 1250 adolescents aged 12 to 15years old, randomly selected. The results confirmed that there were positive correlations between subjective well-being and resilience, self-concept and social support. A high level of self-concept, resilience and family support were predictors of satisfaction with life, a high level of resilience, self-concept and friends support of positive affect, and negative affect was predicted by low levels of self-concept and family support

The aim of this study was to analyse the development of the different dimensions of emotional intelligence in adolescents over one school year and in a cross-sectional study involving 484 adolescents of both sexes from the six school years between year 1 of Spanish secondary school (age 12-13) and year 2 of the Spanish Baccalaureate (age 17-18). Participants were administered the Spanish version of the Emotional Quotient Inventory: Young Version Short (Caraballo & Villegas, 2001). Consistently with most previous research, the findings indicate that, except for the stress management dimension in the female sample group, none of the dimensions of emotional intelligence undergo substantial changes in relation to age.

AbstractThe scientific study of resilience is a subject of great interest in the field of psychology to providea new and positive view of human capacity. The identification of individual and contextual factors that influence the resilience during the developmental stage of adolescence, is necessary to promote the adjustment of adolescentes. The study had a double purpose: Firstly, to analyze the relations between resilience and variables such as self-concept and social support. Secondly, to identify variables that predict resilience. The sample is made up of 1250 adolescents (M = 13.72, SD = 1.09). Using a descriptive and correlational design, three assessment instruments were administered: the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), the Multidimensional Self-Concept Questionnaire (AUDIM), the Perceived Social Support from Family and Friends Questionnaire (AFA) and the Teacher Social Suppport Scale (HBSC-2010). Positive correlations between self-concept and social support with resilience were founded. Test scores of self-concept and social support varied depending of the level of resilience. Self-concept and social support were predictor variables of resilience.

This study examines the conceptual understanding of the mechanisms of rainwater among elementary educational level children by means of two different experimental procedures: a semi-open questionnaire and drawings. The sample study comes from four different schools located in The Basque Autonomous Community (Spain) and is comprised of 124 children enrolled in two different educational levels: the final course of preschool education (5-6 year old children) and the first course of primary education (6-7 year old children). This paper describes the differences with regard to the performance in the drawing tasks among children from the different educational levels considered in the investigation. However, no difference was found concerning their verbal explanations. The results are discussed in the light of a socio-cultural standpoint. Therefore, the study attempts to contribute to the growing body of investigations that aim to understand the process of the comprehension of natural phenomena during the early education.

One of the most pressing concerns today in our society is how to ensure that students are able to adapt to the ever-changing context in which they live, and one of the ways of achieving this is to ensure good school adjustment. This study analyzes whether this adjustment is influenced by students (and their parents) place of birth, gender and age. The sample group comprised 828 secondary school students (Mean age=14.83; SD=1.81) from the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country (BC) in Spain. The results indicate that students born in the BC to native parents have higher levels of affective engagement and achieve better academic results; however, contrary to expectation, not all natives born to immigrant parents were found to score higher for the different dimensions of school adjustment than those born outside the BC. Also, in general, girls were found to have a higher level of adjustment than boys, and students in the last two years of secondary school had lower levels of performance and engagement than both those in the first two years of secondary school and those in higher education. These results are then discussed in the final part of the paper.
