5G networks will use novel technological concepts to meet the requirements of broadband access everywhere, high user and device mobility, and connectivity of massive number of devices (e.g., the Internet of Things) in an ultra-reliable and affordable way. Software defined networking and network functions virtualization leveraging the advances in cloud computing such as mobile edge computing are the most sought out technologies to meet these requirements. However, securely using these technologies and providing user privacy in future wireless networks are the new concerns. Therefore, this article provides an overview of the security challenges in clouds, software defined networking, and network functions virtualization, and the challenges of user privacy. Henceforth, this article presents solutions to these challenges and future directions for secure 5G systems.

The development of the Fifth Generation (5G) wireless networks is gaining momentum to connect almost all aspects of life through the network with much higher speed, very low latency and ubiquitous connectivity. Due to its crucial role in our lives, the network must secure its users, components, and services. The security threat landscape of 5G has grown enormously due to the unprecedented increase in types of services and in the number of devices. Therefore, security solutions if not developed yet must be envisioned already to cope with diverse threats on various services, novel technologies, and increased user information accessible by the network. This article outlines the 5G network threat landscape, the security vulnerabilities in the new technological concepts that will be adopted by 5G, and provides either solutions to those threats or future directions to cope with those security challenges. We also provide a brief outline of the post-5G cellular technologies and their security vulnerabilities which is referred to as Future Generations (XG) in this paper. In brief, this article highlights the present and future security challenges in wireless networks, mainly in 5G, and future directions to secure wireless networks beyond 5G.

Blockchain is so far well-known for its potential applications in financial and banking sectors. However, blockchain as a decentralized and distributed technology can be utilized as a powerful tool for immense daily life applications. Healthcare is one of the prominent applications area among others where blockchain is supposed to make a strong impact. It is generating wide range of opportunities and possibilities in current healthcare systems. Therefore, this paper is all about exploring the potential applications of blockchain technology in current healthcare systems and highlights the most important requirements to fulfill the need of such systems such as trustless and transparent healthcare systems. In addition, this work also presents the challenges and obstacles needed to resolve before the successful adoption of blockchain technology in healthcare systems. Furthermore, we introduce the smart contract for blockchain based healthcare systems which is key for defining the pre-defined agreements among various involved stakeholders.

5G will provide broadband access everywhere, entertain higher user mobility, and enable connectivity of massive number of devices (e.g. Internet of Things (IoT)) in an ultrareliable and affordable way. The main technological enablers such as cloud computing, Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) are maturing towards their use in 5G. However, there are pressing security challenges in these technologies besides the growing concerns for user privacy. In this paper, we provide an overview of the security challenges in these technologies and the issues of privacy in 5G. Furthermore, we present security solutions to these challenges and future directions for secure 5G systems.

Remote health care is currently one of the most promising solutions to ensure a high level of treatment outcome, cost-efficiency and sustainability of the healthcare systems worldwide. Even though research on remote health care can be traced back to the early days of the Internet, the recent COVID-19 has necessitated further improvement in existing health care systems with invigorated research on remote health care technologies. In this article we delve into the state-of-the-art research in latest technologies and technological paradigms that play a vital role in enabling the next generation remote health care and assisted living. First the need of using the latest technological developments in the domain of remote health care is briefly discussed. Then the most important technologies and technological paradigms that are crucial in enabling remote health care and assisted living are emphasised. Henceforth, a detailed survey of existing technologies, potential challenges in those technologies, and possible solutions is conducted. Finally, missing research gaps and important future research directions in each enabling technology are brought forth to motivate further research in remote health care.

The healthcare industry is constantly reforming and adopting new shapes with respect to the technological evolutions and transitions. One of the crucial requirements in the current smart healthcare systems is the protection of patients sensitive data against the potential adversaries. Therefore, it is vital to have secure data access mechanisms that can ensure only authorized entities can access the patients medical information. Hence, this paper considers blockchain technology as a distributed approach protect the data in healthcare systems. This research proposes a blockchain based secure and efficient data accessibility mechanism for the patient and the doctor in a given healthcare system. Proposed system able to protect the privacy of the patients as well. The security analysis of our scheme shows that it can resist to well-known attacks along with maintaining the integrity of the system. Moreover, an Ethereum based implementation has used to verify the feasibility of our proposed system.
