In the current world of the Internet of Things, cyberspace, mobile devices, businesses, social media platforms, healthcare systems, etc., there is a lot of data online today. Machine learning (ML) is something we need to understand to do smart analyses of these data and make smart, automated applications that use them. There are many different kinds of machine learning algorithms. The most well-known ones are supervised, unsupervised, semi-supervised, and reinforcement learning. This article goes over all the different kinds of machine-learning problems and the machine-learning algorithms that are used to solve them. The main thing this study adds is a better understanding of the theory behind many machine learning methods and how they can be used in the real world, such as in energy, healthcare, finance, autonomous driving, e-commerce, and many more fields. This article is meant to be a go-to resource for academic researchers, data scientists, and machine learning engineers when it comes to making decisions about a wide range of data and methods to start extracting information from the data and figuring out what kind of machine learning algorithm will work best for their problem and what results they can expect. Additionally, this article presents the major challenges in building machine learning models and explores the research gaps in this area. In this article, we also provided a brief overview of data protection laws and their provisions in different countries.

Competition in the aircraft industry market and global warming has driven the industry to think along economic and environmental lines. This has resulted in the emergence of more electric aircraft (MEA). The increase in the power demand of aircraft, especially in the last two decades, coupled with advancement in battery materials and technology has led to the development of many high energy density batteries. This study presents an overview of the battery systems for MEA. In this paper, a study on the battery technologies used in aircraft in the last five decades is being done. A general background of the battery system is presented and the performance of the batteries based on energy densities and low temperature capabilities are evaluated and discussed. Evolution of MEA with its power system architecture and load profile is presented to understand the requirements of the battery system. Weight saving and cost analysis is done for the Li‐ion and Ni–Cd batteries with respect to the requirement of an MEA ‘Aircraft X’. Battery management system (BMS) for Li‐ion batteries is also explored and discussed. Based on the analysis, Li‐ion battery is selected and integrated with the power distribution DC network for future MEA.

Several critical infrastructures are integrating information technology into their operations, and as a result, the cyber attack surface extends over a broad range of these infrastructures. Cyber attacks have been a serious problem for industries since the early 2000s, causing significant interruptions to their ability to produce goods or offer services to their clients. The thriving cybercrime economy encompasses money laundering, black markets, and attacks on cyber-physical systems that result in service disruptions. Furthermore, extensive data breaches have compromised the personally identifiable information of millions of people. This paper aims to summarize some of the major cyber attacks that have occurred in the past 20 years against critical infrastructures. These data are gathered in order to analyze the types of cyber attacks, their consequences, vulnerabilities, as well as the victims and attackers. Cybersecurity standards and tools are tabulated in this paper in order to address this issue. This paper also provides an estimate of the number of major cyber attacks that will occur on critical infrastructure in the future. This estimate predicts a significant increase in such incidents worldwide over the next five years. Based on the study’s findings, it is estimated that over the next 5 years, 1100 major cyber attacks will occur on critical infrastructures worldwide, each causing more than USD 1 million in damages.

Owing to the smart lifestyle, environmental consciousness, and dwindling fossil fuel supplies, there is a huge demand for clean and green energy. Microgrid (MG) is a crucial approach to renewable and clean energy. Because of the success of the AC utility grid and the growing demand for critical loads, it is very convenient to provide AC/DC MG that can easily satisfy both the alternating current (AC) MG and the direct current (DC) MG requirements. Due to uncertainty in load variations, main grid failures, intermittent power generations from renewable energy sources (RESs), the synchronization and interconnection of different power converters are the paramount issues in the control of AC/DC MG. This paper presents an overview-oriented state of the art in the recent advancement in control strategies of AC/DC MG and its associated power converters control. Based on recent research, this paper summarizes unobstructed views on different topologies, types of power converters, power converter controls, and control strategies of AC/DC MG. Finally, it identified some future challenges that need to be addressed in order to develop a sustainable and reliable control strategy for AC/DC MG. This paper will serve as a guide for researchers.

Inclusion of bypass diodes at the output terminal of the PV array mitigates the effect of partial shading (PS) but causes multiple peaks of power at the output. The conventional hill climbing and perturb and observe algorithms cannot track the optimal point during partial shading phenomena for multiple peaks corresponding to the different shading pattern on the Power-Voltage (P-V) curve. Fuzzy logic controller and artificial neural network-based methods for Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) provide satisfactory results but at the cost of increased memory and computational burden. Recent work to incorporate exploration and exploitation phenomena of nature-inspired algorithms to track optimal power point have shown encouraging results by preventing convergence to local maxima and posing less burden on the processor. However, due to performance variation between different algorithms of this category newer algorithms with improved performances are still a requirement. In this paper, a novel most valuable player algorithm (MVPA) has been used to track the optimal operation point for extracting maximum power from a solar PV system. The algorithm's performance is compared with the commonly employed particle swarm optimization (PSO) and the recently proposed Jaya algorithm's modified form. It is observed that the proposed algorithm outperformed both the algorithms with a considerable improvement in terms of tracking speed, power tracking efficiency, robustness, faster decision for convergence after tracking the maximum power and lesser number of power fluctuations for different shading patterns.

In this paper, the Levenberg–Marquardt (LM), Bayesian regularization (BR), resilient backpropagation (RP), gradient descent momentum (GDM), Broyden–Fletcher–Goldfarb–Shanno (BFGS), and scaled conjugate gradient (SCG) algorithms constructed using artificial neural networks (ANN) are applied to the problem of MPPT energy harvesting in solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for the purpose of creating a comparative evaluation of the performance of the six distinct algorithms. The goal of this analysis is to determine which of the six algorithms has the best overall performance. In the study, the performance of managing the training dataset is compared across the algorithms. The maximum power point tracking energy harvesting system is created using the environment of MATLAB or Simulink, and the produced model is examined using the artificial neural network toolkit. A total of 1000 datasets of solar irradiance, temperature, and voltage were used to train the suggested model. The data are split into three categories: training, validation, and testing. Eighty percent of the total data is used for training the model, and the remaining twenty percent is divided equally for testing and validation. According to the results, the regression values of LM, RP, BR, and BFGS are 1, whereas the regression values for SCG and GDM are less than 1. The gradient values for LM, RP, BFGS, SCG, BR, and GDM are 7.983 × 10−6, 0.033415, 1.0211 × 10−7, 0.14161, 0.00010493, and 11.485, respectively. Similarly, the performance values for these algorithms are 2.0816 × 10−10, 2.8668 × 10−6, 9.98 × 10−17, 0.052985, 1.583 × 10−7, and 0.15378. Overall, the results demonstrate that the LM and BFGS algorithms exhibit superior performance in terms of gradient and overall performance. The RP and BR algorithms also perform well across various metrics, while the SCG and GDM algorithms show comparatively less effectiveness in addressing the proposed problem. These findings provide valuable insights into the relative performance of the six evaluated algorithms for MPPT energy harvesting in solar PV systems.
