Biography

Joana Pinto (JP) is a Senior Researcher at the Associate Laboratory Institute for Health and Bioeconomy (i4HB) and Applied Molecular Biosciences Unit (UCIBIO), Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto, Portugal. With a BSc in Biochemistry (2008), a MSc in Biomolecular Methods (2010), and a PhD in Biochemistry (2015) from the University of Aveiro, she has extensive expertise in metabolomics using advanced analytical techniques (NMR, GC-MS, LC-MS) and bioinformatics. Her research has focused on various areas, including biomarker discovery for detection of prenatal disorders (e.g., gestational diabetes) and several cancers (glioblastoma, pancreatic, renal, prostate, bladder), investigating the impact of environmental chemicals on the metabolic profile of primary fish hepatocytes, and understanding the complexity of cork/wine interactions in collaboration with the cork industry. Her current research lines focus on applying metabolomics to (1) develop innovative non-invasive tools to improve cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment; and (2) investigate the pharmacometabolomic response to anticancer drugs. Her research has been recognized with six awards and distinctions in prestigious national and international conferences.
