Alan holds the positions of professor emeritus of Toxicology at the University of Idaho, and volunteer faculty at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. His current interests focus on writing books, and articles for the non-scientific audience that focus on the nexus between public health, water quality and modern synthetic compounds. In 2017, Alan published Modern Poisons: An Introduction to Contemporary Toxicology. His latest book, Forever Chemicals is scheduled to be published in mid-2026.
