I am Dr. Alessandra Mongia, a Senior Biologist at ISPRO (Institute for Cancer Research, Prevention and Clinical Network) in Florence, Italy. I graduated in Medical Biotechnology at the University of Bologna (Italy) and specialized in Clinical Pathology at the University of Chieti (Italy). My current work focuses on cervical, colorectal and breast cancer screening programs, with expertise in molecular biology and cytology, focusing on HPV screening and genotyping tests, p16/Ki-67 dual-stain immunocytochemistry and breast cytology. I also contribute to the management and centralization of the regional cervical and colorectal cancer screening laboratory activities in Tuscany. My primary research interests concern the study of novel biomarkers for cancer prevention, including anal cancer. I am a member of GISCi (Italian Group for Cervical Cancer Screening) and SICI (Italian Society of Cytology) and I am author/coauthor of several peer-reviewed publications in these fields, as well as in laboratory medicine (specifically hematology), an area in which I previously worked.
