Alexandra Badea, PhD, is a biomedical engineer whose work bridges neuroimaging and machine learning to investigate neurodegenerative diseases. She holds a BS in Physics Engineering from the University of Bucharest, a MS in Medical Physics, and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Patras. Dr. Badea is an Associate Professor in Radiology and Neurology at Duke University Medical Center, and a core faculty member of the Brain Imaging and Analysis Center (BIAC). She holds a secondary appointment in Biomedical Engineering and is a member of the Medical Physics Graduate Program. Her research focuses on identifying early biomarkers of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), with particular emphasis on genetic risk factors such as APOE alleles, and on integrating multimodal data. Using both animal models and data from cognitively impaired and healthy individuals, her lab develops multivariate models that connect imaging, cognition, and omics to better understand individual risk for AD.
