The Industry 4.0 initiative has been showing the way for industrial production to optimize operations based on collecting, processing, and sharing data. There are new requirements on the production floor: flexible but ultra-reliable, low latency wireless communications through interoperable systems can share data. Further challenges of data sharing and storage arise when diverse systems come into play at the Manufacturing Operations Management and Business Planning & Logistics levels. The emerging complex cyber-physical systems of systems need to be engineered with care. Regarding industrial requirements, the telecommunication industry has many similarities to production—including ultra-reliability, high complexity, and having humans “in-the-loop”. The current paper aims to provide an overview of converging telco-grade solutions that can be successfully applied in the wide sense of industrial production. These toolsets range from model-driven engineering through system interoperability frameworks, 5G- and 6G-supported manufacturing, and the telco-cloud to speech recognition in noisy environments.

This paper presents an investigation of speaker adaptation using a continuous vocoder for parametric text-to-speech (TTS) synthesis. In purposes that demand low computational complexity, conventional vocoder-based statistical parametric speech synthesis can be preferable. While capable of remarkable naturalness, recent neural vocoders nonetheless fall short of the criteria for real-time synthesis. We investigate our former continuous vocoder, in which the excitation is characterized employing two one-dimensional parameters: Maximum Voiced Frequency and continuous fundamental frequency (F0). We show that an average voice can be trained for deep neural network-based TTS utilizing data from nine English speakers. We did speaker adaptation experiments for each target speaker with 400 utterances (approximately 14 minutes). We showed an apparent enhancement in the quality and naturalness of synthesized speech compared to our previous work by utilizing the recurrent neural network topologies. According to the objective studies (Mel-Cepstral Distortion and F0 correlation), the quality of speaker adaptation using Continuous Vocoder-based DNN-TTS is slightly better than the WORLD Vocoder-based baseline. The subjective MUSHRA-like test results also showed that our speaker adaptation technique is almost as natural as the WORLD vocoder using Gated Recurrent Unit and Long Short Term Memory networks. The proposed vocoder, being capable of real-time synthesis, can be used for applications which need fast synthesis speed.

A rising line of research that endeavors to uncover implicit mechanisms of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Children with ASD can't express their feelings unequivocally; this makes it troublesome for the parents and overseers related with these youngsters to comprehend their conductance, Causing a noteworthy difficulty in the child's initial formative stages. In this paper, a system was implemented to monitor children with autism remotely to help specialists follow their patients' progress and analyzing the collecting data. The system consists of NodeMCU ESP8266, galvanic skin response (GSR) sensor, broker (server) and a smartphone or personal computer. NodeMCU (ESP8266) reads the data from the GSR sensor and publishes it on the server. This system observes the subjects' reactions to different emotions like sadness, happiness, nervous, hunger, relaxation and trepidation, and then records the data. Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol had been used to publish the data online. Finally, a comparison had been made between the obtained data for children with autism and without autism.

Oil refineries have high operating expenses and are often exposed to increased asset integrity risks and functional failure. Real-time monitoring of their operations has always been critical to ensuring safety and efficiency. We proposed a novel Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) design that employs a text-to-speech synthesizer (TTS) based on neural networks to build an intelligent extension control system. We enhanced a TTS model to achieve high inference speed by employing HiFi-GAN V3 vocoder in the acoustic model FastSpeech 2. We experimented with our system on a low resources-embedded system in a real-time environment. Moreover, we customized the TTS model to generate two target speakers (female and male) using a small dataset. We performed an ablation analysis by conducting experiments to evaluate the performance of our design (IoT connectivity, memory usage, inference speed, and output speech quality). The results demonstrated that our system Real-Time Factor (RTF) is 6.4 (without deploying the cache mechanism, which is a technique to call the previously synthesized speech sentences in our system memory). Using the cache mechanism, our proposed model successfully runs on a low-resource computational device with real-time speed (RTF equals 0.16, 0.19, and 0.29 when the memory has 250, 500, and 1000 WAV files, respectively). Additionally, applying the cache mechanism has reduced memory usage percentage from 16.3% (for synthesizing a sentence of ten seconds) to 6.3%. Furthermore, according to the objective speech quality evaluation, our TTS model is superior to the baseline TTS model.
