A N M Amanullah Tomal is a PhD candidate in the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at Adelaide University. His research focuses on computational modeling of laser-directed energy deposition (L-DED). He received his BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Bangladesh, and his MSc in Mechatronics Engineering from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). His master’s research centred on hybrid manufacturing. As a research assistant at IIUM, he broadened his work into mechatronic design and energy systems. He built and mathematically modelled a refrigeration system combining photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) collectors, thermoelectric coolers and absorption refrigeration, and designed and tested the mechanical structure of a clothes-folding machine with an automatic hanger. He then spent more than three years as a lecturer at different univeristies in Bangaldesh.
