I am an ecosystem ecologist with a focus on plant-soil carbon cycling. I completed my PhD at York (UK) in 2002 on environmental controls on carbon cycling in the mycorrhizal symbiosis. Over the last 20 years I have focused on peatlands but I also studied grasslands and forests. My focus is on the UK, although I also worked in Sweden. My main expertise is in applying ground-level chamber-based flux systems to capture net ecosystem exchange and methane emissions in relation to climate and management. I have published >65 papers, edited a book on soil respiration with several chapter contributions and wrote several major reports. My work has contributed to developing multiplexed ground-level flux chambers, separating soil fluxes into its components and responses to environmental factors (including mycorrhizas) and linking soil fluxes to plant activity.
