I completed my Ph.D. at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland in 2008. I worked at the University of Jyväskylä as an Academy of Finland postdoctoral fellow and then as a research associate at Aalto University, Finland. I spent time as a guest scholar at the University of Bonn, Germany, Free University of Berlin, Germany, and at the University of Texas at Austin, USA. Before joining Oakland University in 2018, I worked as a visiting professor at the University of Windsor, ON, Canada.
My research focuses on utilizing weak interactions in the construction of complex systems and their potential practical applications in material science and biotechnology. Current research includes structural & synthetic supramolecular chemistry, halogen bonding and soft-biomaterials.
