Information

Prof. Dan Blumberg is the Vice President for Regional and Industrial Development at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) and the Chair of the Israel Space Agency. He is a member of the International Academy of Astronautics and holds the Simon Family Chair in Remote Sensing. Prof. Blumberg earned his Ph.D. in Planetary Geology from Arizona State University in 1993, where he focused on aeolian processes and radar remote sensing for arid zone and planetary geology studies. He has been a Co-Investigator on major space missions, including the SRL and SRTM, and led the development and launch of BGU's nanosatellite, BGUsat, in 2017. His research over the past two decades has focused on multi-parameter remote sensing, including radar, hyperspectral, and ground-penetrating radar data, with significant contributions to target and anomaly detection. Prof. Blumberg has published extensively in remote sensing and planetary geology and serves on multiple boards and committees, including the BGN Technologies Board of Directors and the GIID Steering Committee. His teaching disciplines include remote sensing, planetary geology, and environmental development, and his research interests span satellite technology, anomaly detection, and advancing the use of space technology for societal benefit.
