Prof. Dr. Burak Yön’s work focuses on earthquake engineering, seismic performance assessment of reinforced concrete structures, seismic fragility and vulnerability analysis, masonry structures, steel structures, and nonlinear structural analysis. His research investigates the relationship between infill wall configuration and the seismic performance of structures using numerical modeling and nonlinear analysis methods. Professor Yön employs advanced computational methods-such as nonlinear static pushover analysis, Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA), and seismic fragility analysis-in structural assessment processes. His work encompasses the three-dimensional modeling of reinforced concrete buildings and the evaluation of structural responses under varying levels of earthquake intensity. Particular emphasis is placed on factors such as displacement demands, capacity, damage states, and the probability of collapse. Another aspect of his research is the evaluation of observed earthquake damage in relation to analytical structural response. In this context, earthquakes affecting Türkiye and the surrounding region provide an important basis for examining structural damage mechanisms and evaluating whether numerical models can adequately reproduce observed vulnerabilities. His work seeks to establish stronger connections between field observations, structural modeling, nonlinear analysis, and seismic risk assessment.
