Dr.
Christopher D. Askew is a Professor in Clinical Exercise Physiology with the
School of Health at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland,
Australia. He has held academic positions at Queensland University of
Technology and UniSC, and was previously a Research Fellow with the Department
of Surgery at the University of Queensland—Royal Brisbane and Women’s
Hospital. His research aims to better understand and address exercise
intolerance in people with chronic and age-related conditions, with a focus on
cardiovascular rehabilitation. His clinical research is underpinned by
experimental investigations of muscle metabolism, microcirculation,
angiogenesis, limb blood flow, endothelial function, and muscle fatigue.
Additionally, he applies his expertise to studies of sympathoexcitatory stressors
and recovery strategies for elite athletes. He leads the VasoActive
research group at UniSC and is the current lead of the Healthy Ageing Research
Cluster. Professor Askew is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist, and he is a
former board member and past President of Exercise and Sport Science Australia
(ESSA). He is currently a member of the Exercise-is-Medicine Australia
Advisory Council, and the Clinical Exercise Physiology-UK Board.
