Dr. C. Saura is Associate Professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology -Institut de Neurociències of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain). Dr. Saura’s lab investigates cellular and molecular mechanisms of neuronal plasticity and survival, and the mechanisms underlying memory loss and neurodegeneration in neurodegenerative diseases. His lab combines cutting-edge genetic, transcriptomic and proteomic methodologies to better understand the molecular pathways causing neuronal dysfunction, memory loss and neurodegeneration in Alzheimer’s disease. We use pioneering approaches to generate novel transgenic and knockout mouse models of neurodegeneration that are used for testing new therapeutic strategies (pharmacological, gene therapy, cognitive stimulation…) for future treatment of age-related dementia disorders.
