Biography

My research program is centered on Plant Biodesign, aiming to transform crops into efficient bio-factories through the following three strategic pillars: Development of Precision Genome Editing Tools: I am deeply interested in mining and engineering novel CRISPR/Cas effectors, such as Cas12i and TnpB systems. By optimizing these tools for PAM flexibility and high-efficiency base editing, I aim to provide versatile solutions for the intricate genetic fine-tuning required in complex plant genomes. Synthetic Metabolic Engineering for Functional Crops: I focus on the modular reconstruction of secondary metabolic pathways to enhance the nutritional and medicinal value of crops. This involves the targeted synthesis of high-value compounds, including specialized lipids and bioactive pigments, to develop "future crops" that directly contribute to human health and preventative medicine. Multi-gene Stacking and Advanced Transformation Technologies: To address the limitations of conventional breeding, I work on developing large-capacity vector systems capable of carrying dozens of genes simultaneously. Coupled with efforts to improve the efficiency of genetic transformation in recalcitrant species like sugarcane and citrus, this research facilitates the rapid development of elite varieties with stacked traits for biotic and abiotic stress resistance.
