Federated learning faces many security and privacy issues. Among them, poisoning attacks can significantly impact global models, and malicious attackers can prevent global models from converging or even manipulating the prediction results of global models. Defending against poisoning attacks is a very urgent and challenging task. However, there need to be more systematic reviews that analyze various defense strategies from a privacy-preserving perspective. This survey provides an in-depth and up-to-date overview of poisoning attacks and corresponding defense strategies in federated learning. We first classify the attack methods according to their targets. Next, we analyze the differences and connections between the various attack methods. In addition, we classify defense strategies for poisoning attacks in federated learning into three categories and analyze their advantages and disadvantages. Finally, we discuss the privacy protection problem in defense of poisoning attacks and poisoning attacks and propose potential research directions from the perspective of attack and defense, respectively.

With the development of Internet of Things infrastructures and intelligent traffic systems, the traffic congestion that results from the continuous complexity of urban road networks and traffic saturation has a new solution. In this research, we propose a traffic signal control scenario based on edge computing. We also propose a chemical reaction–cooperative particle swarm optimization (CRO-CPSO) algorithm so that flexible traffic control is sunk to the edge. To implement short-term real-time vehicle waiting time prediction as a collaborative judgment of CRO-CPSO, we suggest a traffic flow prediction system based on fuzzy logic. In addition, we introduce a co-factor (collaborative factor) set based on offline learning to take into account the experiential characteristics of intersections in urban road networks for the generation of strategies by the algorithm. Furthermore, the real case of Changsha County is simulated on the SUMO simulation platform. The issue of traffic flow saturation is improved by our method. Compared with other methods, our algorithm enhances the proportions of vehicles that reach their destinations on time by 13.03%, which maximizes the driving experience for drivers. Meanwhile, our algorithm reduces the driving times of vehicles by 25.34%, thus alleviating traffic jams.

Federated learning is a distributed machine learning technique that allows multiple devices to collaborate on learning a shared model without exchanging data. It can be used to improve model accuracy while protecting user privacy. However, traditional federated learning is vulnerable to attacks from generative adversarial networks (GANs). As a new privacy protection method, differential privacy enhances privacy protection capabilities by sacrificing some data accuracy. To optimize the privacy budget allocation scheme in traditional differential privacy, we propose a differential privacy method called ADP-FL, which dynamically adjusts the privacy budget based on Newton’s Law of Cooling. While maintaining the overall privacy budget, it dynamically tunes adaptive parameters to improve training accuracy. Additionally, we propose an asynchronous federated learning aggregation scheme that combines privacy budget with data freshness, thereby reducing the impact of differential privacy on accuracy. We conducted extensive experiments on differential privacy algorithms based on Gaussian mechanisms and Laplace mechanisms. The experimental results show that, under the same privacy budget, our algorithm achieves higher accuracy and lower communication overhead compared to the baseline algorithm.

With the development of 5G and artificial intelligence, the security of Cloud-Edge-End Collaboration (CEEC) networks becomes an increasingly prominent issue due to the complexity of the environment, real-time variability and diversity of edge devices in CEEC networks. In this paper, we design a lightweight fuzzy collaborative trust evaluation model (LFCTEM) for edge devices, and calculate the trust values of edge devices by fuzzifying trust factors. To alleviate the selfish behavior of edge devices, this paper introduces an incentive mechanism in the trust evaluation model, and achieves a long-term incentive effect by designing an incentive negative decay mechanism, which enhances the initiative of collaboration and improves the interference resistance of CEEC networks. We verify the performance of LFCTEM through simulation experiments. Compared with other methods, our model enhances the detection rate of malicious edge devices by 19.11%, which improves the reliability of the CEEC trust environment. Meanwhile, our model reduces the error detection rate of edge devices by 16.20%, thus alleviating error reporting of the CEEC trust environment.

The advancement of 6G (6th Generation Mobile Networks) communication technology has posed challenges for traditional communication network architectures in meeting the demands for communication efficiency and quality. Semantic communication technology, characterized by its “understand before transmit” approach, has emerged as a pivotal technology driving the progress of 6G due to its ability to enhance communication efficiency and quality. The Wireless Image Transmission Transformer (WITT) model, which operates as a semantic communication system leveraging vision transformer technology for the transmission of semantic images, has shown efficacy in transmitting input images through processes of feature extraction and channel adaptation. This study introduces an advanced channel adaptive module that is informed by deep learning methodologies and the adaptive modulation principles of the Variational Information Bottleneck (VIB). This innovation enhances the original WITT model, resulting in the development of the Adaptive Wireless Image Transmission Transformer (ADWITT) architecture. Comprehensive experimental results have unequivocally shown that the transmission performance of the ADWITT architecture substantially surpasses that of the conventional WITT (Wavelet Image Transmission Technique) model, particularly in scenarios characterized by harsh and detrimental channel conditions. These findings underscore the robustness and adaptability of the ADWITT approach, which is poised to improve the field of image transmission by offering superior performance and resilience in environments where traditional methods falter.

With the growth of IoT and latency-sensitive applications (e.g., virtual reality, autonomous driving), massive amounts of data are generated at the network and the edge. Such proliferation drives the development of dispersed computing as a promising complementary paradigm to cloud computing and edge computing. Dispersed computing can leverage in-network computing resources to provide lower latency guarantees and more reliable computing power support than the cloud computing. On the other hand, dispersed computing shows excellent performance in highly dynamic and heterogeneous environments. This paper introduces the concepts of dispersed computing and demonstrates the potential of dispersed computing in terms of providing low-latency services and adapting to highly dynamic and heterogeneous environments through several cases. To better grasp the current state of research in dispersed computing, several major research directions and advances are also presented in the hope of attracting the attention of the community and inspiring more researches to promote the implementation of dispersed computing.
