Antonio Charlys da Costa is a researcher at the Virology Laboratory of the Instituto de Medicina Tropical da Universidade de São Paulo (IMT-USP), Brazil. He earned his Bachelor of Pharmacy and Biochemistry from Universidade Paulista (2009) and his Ph.D. in Tropical Medicine from the University of São Paulo (2017), which included a sandwich doctorate internship at the Blood Systems Research Institute, University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), USA (2015), under the supervision of Dr. Eric Delwart.His research focuses on molecular and evolutionary virology, with a particular emphasis on emerging virus epidemiology, bioinformatics applied to viral genomics, diagnostic tool development, and novel virus discovery. He has made significant contributions to the field of viral metagenomics, applying these techniques to track and understand the transmission of arboviruses such as Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika in Brazil, as well as investigating the human virome in various clinical contexts. He is an active member of the international genomic surveillance network Abbott Pandemic Defense Coalition and has authored over a hundred virology articles published in high-impact journals. His work is frequently cited in research areas including viral gastroenteritis, mosquito-borne diseases, and veterinary virology.Keywords: Viral Metagenomics; Emerging Viruses; Arboviruses; Bioinformatics; Molecular Virology; Virus Discovery; Epidemiology; Genomic Surveillance; Tropical Medicine;
