The main goal of Chengyu Yu’s r team is to utilize the heterosis of oilseed Brassicas of high quality, high yield, and wide adaptation. Such new traits as herbicide-tolerance, yellow-seedness and high oil content are also desired. We try to improve the different pollination control systems in rapeseed, including cytoplasmic male sterility, chemical gametocide, and temperature-sensitive male sterility. We found many acetolactate synthase (ALS)-inhibiting herbicides, including tribenuron-methyl, amidosulfuron, and imazethapyr etc, were useful gametocides for Brassicaceae species. These chemicals have been widely used in large scale production of hybrid rapeseed.
