I am a Consultant Respiratory and General Internal Medicine Physician at Tallaght University Hospital, Dublin, with a specialist interest in pleural disease. I graduated with honours from University College Dublin in 2008 and completed specialist training in Respiratory and General Internal Medicine in Ireland before undertaking a Clinical Pleural Research Fellowship at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth, Western Australia. I completed my PhD in 2023. My research focuses on pleural disease, including malignant pleural effusion, pleural infection and pneumothorax. I have published 38 peer-reviewed articles and more than 60 scientific abstracts and have contributed to multicentre clinical trials including AMPLE-3 and STOPPE. I am particularly proud of my work on the EPIToME protocol for malignant pleural effusion and the PLEASE-2 study of breathlessness and diaphragmatic function in pleural effusion. I co-chair the Irish Thoracic Society Pleural Disease Group and am a member of the Irish Thoracic Society, European Respiratory Society and Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand. My awards include an ERS Long-Term Research Fellowship, a Western Australia Cancer and Palliative Care Network Fellowship and a €50,000 Meath Foundation Grant.
