Dr. Daniel Bikle is Professor of Medicine and Dermatology at the University of California San Francisco and a staff endocrinologist at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. He is a physician scientist attending on the Endocrine Service and running a basic research laboratory. His research interests include the hormonal regulation of skeletal development, the response to mechanical load, and fracture repair. His other major area of interest focuses on the role of calcium and vitamin D in keratinocyte differentiation, skin cancer, and the response of the skin to wounding. Dr. Bikle received his AB from Harvard College, his MD and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, and his clinical training at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, now called Brigham and Womens Hospital. Following his clinical and graduate training, he spent 5 years at the Letterman Army Institute of Research in San Francisco before joining the faculty at UCSF and SFVAMC, where he has remained ever since. Dr Bikle is a member of the Association of American Professors, the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the Endocrine Society, the AAAS, the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, and the American College of Physicians. He has published over 400 original articles, reviews, book chapters, and editorials..
