Soil classes in the Caiabi and Renato river basins, tributaries of the Teles Pires river, in the south of the Amazon Due to advances in agricultural production systems and the growing demand for food in the world, the need to investigate the relationships between soil attributes and the different environmental conditions in which they are inserted is still prominent. There are several scientific products that present the characterizations of Brazilian soils, however, depending on the application, the greatest limitations are linked to spatial scales and sampling in isolated regions. In this work, eighteen soil profiles were classified, distributed in two hydrographic basins (Renato and Caiabi rivers), of tributaries of the Teles Pires river, in the southern region of the Amazon. Field work was carried out with the general and morphological description of the horizons and the collection of deformed and undisturbed samples for further physical and chemical analysis in the laboratory. The classification of the 18 soil profiles in the field was compared up to the fourth categorical level with the IBGE data, 2021. The compatibility of the soils classified in the field with the IBGE data was 95% in the order, 38% in the suborder, 95% in the large groups and 88% in subgroups. The predominant soil class in the two hydrographic basins is Oxisol (Latosols), ranging from red to red-yellow, with hues from 2.5 YR to 10.0 YR, all dystrophic. Plinthic horizons were observed in diagnostic positions in the Renato river basin and in non-diagnostic positions in the Caiabi river basin. Palavras-chave: natural resource; Oxisol; pedology; agricultural frontier; Cerrado-Amazon ecotone.

The Amazon biome plays a crucial role in the hydrological cycle, supplying water vapor for the atmosphere and contributing to evapotranspiration (ET) that influences regional humidity across Brazil and South America. Remote sensing (RS) has emerged as a valuable tool for measuring and estimating ET, particularly in the data-scarce Amazon region. A scientometric analysis was conducted to identify the most used RS-based ET product or model in Brazil and its potential application in the Amazon. Scientometrics allows for the quantitative analysis of scientific output; this study identified the most widely used RS product in the Amazon biome. Articles published in Web of Science, Scielo, and Scopus databases up to 2022 were searched using the keywords “Evapotranspiration”, “Remote Sensing”, and “Brazil”. After initial screening, 140 relevant articles were subjected to scientometric analysis using the Bibliometrix library in RStudio 2023.06.1+524. These articles, published between 2001 and 2022, reveal a collaborative research landscape involving 600 authors and co-authors from 245 institutions, with most studies originating from Brazil’s Southeast and North (Amazon) regions. Notably, within the 12 studies focusing on ET by RS in the Amazon biome, applications were diverse, encompassing river basins, climate change, El Niño, and deforestation, with the MOD16 product being the most frequently employed.

Solar radiation is an element and a meteorological factor that is present in several processes, such as evapotranspiration, photosynthesis, and energy generation, among others. However, in some regions, there is a limitation in surface data measurements. In this study, 87 empirical models were evaluated to estimate global radiation (Hg) in the Brazilian Amazon biome; these models were divided into five groups according to the input variables, such as insolation (group I), air temperature (group II), relative humidity (group III), astronomical variables (group IV), and hybrid models (group V). The estimates were evaluated by their significance (t-test) and then according to the statistical metrics of the models’ performance (R2, MBE, RMSE, and d). The group V model Hg/H0=a+bln∆T+cS/S0d presented the best statistical performance in all the evaluated indicators, followed by the group I model Hg/H0=a+bS/S0c, and then the group II model Hg/H0=a+b∆T+c∆T0.25+d∆T0.5+eTmed/H0. The group III models presented a low statistical performance, and the group IV models were not significant (NS) in all the evaluated meteorological stations. In general, it was found that the simplified or hybrid models based on insolation and air temperature were efficient in estimating Hg in the Brazilian Amazon biome.

The objective of this work was to estimate the rainfall erosivity in 101 municipalities in the Brazilian Cerrado biome. First, a filling of missing data was carried out for 81 rain gauge stations, with a 20-year historical series, in the states of Mato Grosso (MT), Mato Grosso do Sul (MS), Minas Gerais (MG), and Goiás (GO). The corrected data were subjected to 16 regionally calibrated equations, which enabled the determination of the rainfall erosivity. The results indicated that municipalities in northeastern MS present the highest monthly erosivity indexes (El30m), reaching 2,796.5 MJ mm ha-1 h-1 year-1 in January, whereas the lowest index for this same month was 733.0 MJ mm ha-1 h-1 in the eastern MT. The rainfall annual erosivity, or R factor, varied between 3,713.1 and 12,345.6 MJ mm ha-1 h-1 year-1, with the lowest values for municipalities in eastern MT and the highest values for those in northeastern MS. Although the municipalities studied are within the same biome, the spatial distribution makes them present regional effects due to different climatic factors, resulting in different rainfall volumes and intensities, which is reflected in the results of the monthly erosivity index and R factor. Keywords: rainfall stations; R fator; fill missing data; precipitation.
