Prof. Danny Geelen is appointed at the faculty of Bioscience Engineering leading the research unit HortiCell (www.horticell.ugent.be). He has expertise in plant tissue culture, horticulture, and pre-breeding technology. In Vitro Culture: adventitious roots and shoot formation, activity of molecular genetics and chemical biology of growth and regeneration. The recent research focus is on single cell (protoplast and microspore) regeneration. Plant Sexual Reproduction and Breeding: The impact of the environment on sexual reproduction, meiosis and microsporogenesis. In this section the impact of high temperature stress on male meiosis and microsporogenesis is studied.
