Dumitru N. Olaru Emeritus Professor in Mechanical Engineering Faculty from Technical University "Gheorghe Asachi" Iasi, Romania. Supervisor of Ph. D. students in the field of machine elements ,tribology and biotribology. Born in 1951. Graduate in Mechanical Engineerinf field. Ph.D.Thesis in the field of friction and lubrication of angular contact ball bearings. Co-author of the two-volume monograph "Rolling Bearings: Design and Technology". The monograph was coordinated by Professor Mihai Gafitanu and was awarded a prize by the Romanian Academy in 1987. Author of a book on Tribology and a book on Fundamentals of Lubrication. Author and co-author over 150 scientific papers in the journals: Wear, Lubricants, Mechanism and Machine Theory, Tribology Letters, Tribology International, Materials Science and Engineering: C, Tribology Transactions, Sensors as well as in the volumes of international conferences with a tribology profile. Main topics addressed: lubrication and friction in ball bearings, in ball screws, in rolling guides, friction processes on a miniature scale, the stick-slip phenomenon, friction at the skin level, friction and lubrication in human joints.
