Gamal El-Hiti was born in Egypt. He received his BSc and MSc from Tanta University, Egypt. He received his PhD in 1996, for which he spent two years at Swansea University in the UK. He was appointed Lecturer (1996), Associate Professor (2001), and Professor (2006–2013) at Tanta University; Academic Visitor at Swansea University (1998–1999); Lecturer and Research Officer at Swansea University (2002–2007); and Research Fellow, Research Associate, and Teacher of Organic Chemistry at Cardiff University (2007–2013). His research interests are primarily the development of novel organic synthetic methods and the synthesis of compounds with interesting properties. He is currently a Professor at King Saud University, Saudi Arabia, and has been since 2013.
