In this article, we generalize the Rayleigh distribution using the quadratic rank transmutation map studied by Shaw et al. (2009) to develop a transmuted Rayleigh distribution. We provide a comprehensive description of the mathematical properties of the subject distribution along with its reliabilitybehavior. The usefulness of the transmuted Rayleigh distribution for modeling data is illustrated using real data.

In this article, a two-parameter generalized inverse Lindley distribution capable of modeling a upside-down bathtub-shaped hazard rate function is introduced. Some statistical properties of proposed distribution are explicitly derived here. The method of maximum likelihood, least square, and maximum product spacings are used for estimating the unknown model parameters and also compared through the simulation study. The approximate confidence intervals, based on a normal and a log-normal approximation, are also computed. Two algorithms are proposed for generating a random sample from the proposed distribution. A real data set is modeled to illustrate its applicability, and it is shown that our distribution fits much better than some other existing inverse distributions.

In this paper, a new family of continuous distributions called the exponentiated transmuted-G family is proposed which extends the transmuted-G family defined by Shaw and Buckley (2007). Some of its mathematical properties including explicit expressions for the ordinary and incomplete moments, generating function, Rényi and Shannon entropies, and order statistics are derived. Some special models of the new family are provided. The maximum likelihood is used for estimating the model parameters. We provide the simulation results to assess the performance of the proposed model. The usefulness and flexibility of the new family is illustrated using real data.

We develop a new continuous distribution called the beta-Burr type X distribution that extends the Burr type X distribution. The properties provide a comprehensive mathematical treatment of this distribution. Further more, various structural properties of the new distribution are derived, that includes moment generating function and the rth moment thus generalizing some results in the literature. We also obtain expressions for the density, moment generating function and rth moment of the order statistics. We consider the maximum likelihood estimation to estimate the parameters. Additionally, the asymptotic confidence intervals for the parameters are derived from the Fisher information matrix. Finally, simulation study is carried at under varying sample size to assess the performance of this model. Illustration the real dataset indicates that this new distribution can serve as a good alternative model to model positive real data in many areas.

We introduce the new continuous distribution, the so-called beta-Lindley distribution that extends the Lindley distribution. We provide a comprehensive mathematical treatment of this distribution. We derive the moment generating function and therth moment thus, generalizing some results in the literature. Expressions for the density, moment generating function, andrth moment of the order statistics also are obtained. Further, we also discuss estimation of the unknown model parameters in both classical and Bayesian setup. The usefulness of the new model is illustrated by means of two real data sets. We hope that the new distribution proposed here will serve as an alternative model to other models available in the literature for modelling positive real data in many areas.
