Funda Dogruman-Al graduated from the Gazi University School of Medicine (Ankara, Turkey) in 1994 and started her obligatory service in different cities in Turkey. She then received a clinical microbiology specialist education from the Atatürk University School of Medicine (Erzurum, Turkey). Later, she worked as a microbiology specialist at the State Hospital in Ankara until 2004. She started her academic life at the Gazi University School of Medicine, Department of Medical Microbiology, Ankara, in 2004. She also completed a Basic Biotechnology Ph.D. degree at the Ankara University Biotechnology Institute in 2016 (Ankara, Turkey). She received a scholarship from The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey in 2007 and studied at Nara Women’s University. Her scientific interest lies in gastrointestinal protists, especially Blastocystis, Dientamoeba fragilis, and Microsporidia. She is still working as a professor at the Gazi University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medical Microbiology, Division of Medical Parasitology. She is also a management committee member of the EU COST CA 21105 “Blastocystis under One Health” initiative and the leader of group 1 of the “Mapping Blastocystis epidemiology and diagnostics” working group.
