George Halkos is a Professor in Economics of Natural Resources at the University of Thessaly. He is an economist who has graduated from the Department of Economics at the University of Piraeus (Greece). He holds an M.Sc in Project Analysis, Finance and Investment and a D.Phil in Cost-Benefit Analysis with the use of Mathematical Models and Game Theory and with application to Environmental Economics from the Economics Department of the University of York (England).
Prof. George Halkos taught various postgraduate courses across international institutions as a visiting professor. He has worked as a team leader and research fellow in various research and academic institutions for research projects financed by the European Union (PHARE programs), the Hellenic Republic Ministry of Development, the National Statistical Service of Greece, the EUROSTAT, the Ministry of Employment, etc.
His research interests are in the fields of Applied Statistics and Econometrics, Simulations of Economic Modeling, Natural Resource and Environmental Economics, Applied Micro-economics with emphasis in Welfare Economics, Air Pollution, Game Theory, and Mathematical Models (Non-Linear Programming).
In recognition of his scholarly impact, Professor Halkos has been included in Stanford University’s list of the world’s top 2% of highly cited scientists for four consecutive years, up to the last one in 2023.
