Dr. Ashantha Goonetilleke holds a B.Sc. (Honours) in Civil Engineering from the University of Peradeniya, an M.Sc. in Environmental Management from Griffith University, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Hydrology from Queensland University of Technology (QUT). He is a Professor of Water/Environmental Engineering at QUT with an enduring commitment to make the water environment more sustainable and contribute to its adaptation to climate change. Previously he was the Technical Advisor on sustainability to the Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) for ten years and held the Professorial Chair in Airport Innovation for five years. In this role, he provided advice on a range of sustainability initiatives; related policy development; and R&D activities, including water and energy efficiency. He also served as the Director for Infrastructure Research at the Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering, QUT, for five years. Dr. Goonetilleke’s
expertise includes protecting and restoring water quality and Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD); risk-based stormwater/wastewater recycling; water conservation and efficiency and adaptation to climate change; resilience of water infrastructure and water supply security, conservation, and
sustainability; and water supply, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).
