Haibin Chang earned his bachelor's degree in Mechanics from the School of Mathematics at Jilin University and his Ph.D. in Energy and Resources Engineering from the College of Engineering at Peking University. After completing his doctorate, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher and research fellow at Peking University. He is currently employed at China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing). His research focuses on oil and gas reservoir development and underground gas storage, with an emphasis on seepage mechanisms, numerical simulation, uncertainty quantification, data assimilation, production optimization, machine learning, and digital twins in these fields. He has done a series of work in areas such as data assimilation methods for complex media and flows, theory-guided deep learning approaches, and intelligent operation methodologies for underground gas storage. He has published over 30 journal papers.
