I’m Dr. Zahid Hussain, my research interest focuses on inflammatory diseases such as viral hepatitis, functional gastrointestinal disorder-IBD, stress induced gut microbiome disruption-colonization of pathogenic bacteria, liver cirrhosis, related cancer and osteoarthritis. My research mostly highlighted the causative factors, mechanisms and treatment options of these diseases. I have designed several animal models such as inflammatory bowel disorder (IBD), postoperative ileus (POI), and mouse model of cancer to study the mechanisms and treatment options. Since these diseases are difficult to be completely cured through conventional treatment. In this perspective, alternative approach such as REGERATIVE STEM CELL THERAPY could be a better and effective option that needs to be studied in detail. To treat inflammatory diseases with stem cells, I have standardized isolation, culture and expansion of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from Umbilical Cord, Adipose Tissue, and Bone Marrow. These MSCs could be utilized in naïve, conditioned or genetically modified form. Further, exosomes (acellular products) released by these cells in culture media could be isolated, purified and added to increase MSCs potency to treat inflammatory conditions. Apart from MSCs, I have been working on other human biologics such as platelet rich plasma (PrP) for the treatment of degenerative diseases.
