Dr. Imran Shahid is an associate professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Medicine, at the Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), Makkah, Saudi Arabia. He received his Master's and Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the Center of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB), the University of Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan, focusing on developing anti-mRNA-based treatment strategies against Hepatitis C Virus Genotype (HCV-GT) 1a infection in Pakistan. His specific research focus lies in mapping host-virus networks in HCV disease progression, anti-mRNA based treatment strategies against viral infections, development of novel therapeutic strategies and drug delivery methods for breast and/or colon cancer, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treatment. Currently, his research work on novel therapeutic strategies against Dengue Virus (DENV) infection, functionalized nanoparticle formulations against colon cancer, HCC, and the therapeutic potential of various phytochemicals against metabolic syndrome in animal models is supported by the Deanship of Scientific Research (DSR), Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah, and Ministry of Education, Saudi Arabia, respectively. Dr. Imran Shahid has published many research and review articles in peer-reviewed international journals and authored/edited two books on HCV-host interactions, molecular pathogenesis, and HCV treatment. He is also an associate editor and an active editorial board member of several international journals.
