My research aims to understand how mitochondria regulate tumor cell proliferation and metastasis, ultimately identifying druggable targets. Rapidly growing tumors are exposed to harsh conditions within the tumor microenvironment, including nutrient deprivation, hypoxia, and elevated reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. To survive, cancer cells undergo adaptive changes—both genetic and non-genetic—that enhance their fitness, buffer stress signals, and reprogram metabolism to meet their bioenergetic demands. By uncovering the mechanisms that enable tumor cells to overcome adverse growth conditions, we can identify novel therapeutic targets with the potential to disrupt cancer progression.
