Born in Medellin, Colombia, John Jairo has a B.S. in Civil Engineering (1991), a M.E. in Roads and Transportation (1997) and a Doctorate in Engineering (2012) from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia at Medellin. He is an Associate Professor in the area of transportation and highway engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering of the School of Mines at the same university since 1998. His research areas are highway engineering, transportation infrastructure, passenger and freight transportation, transportation economics, and traffic engineering. Before his academic and professional work at the University, he served professional activities of his profession in several private companies dedicated to consulting, such as “Hugo Correa Roldan I.C.” and “Integral S.A”. In those consulting firms he worked on the transportation area participating in technical studies, designs and projects evaluations, in domestic and international projects. He was also a public official in the service of the Government of Antioquia as Area Manager in the Division of Bridges and Boats.
