I obtained my Ph.D. (1997) in the area of Biochem. & Mol. Biol. at the University of Cádiz (UCA), investigating new human autoantigens using antibody screenings on human EST libraries, which led, among other things, to two articles in J Biol Chem. From 1999 to 2000, I made a stay in Dr. González Reyes’ laboratory at the LMB-MRC, Cambridge, UK to study stem cells in the Drosophila ovary, a work that was published in "Development" and "Developmental Dynamics". I later started a collaboration with Prof. María Domínguez (I. Neurociencias, Alicante) to study Drosophila as a model organism for cancer, obtaining two high-impact articles (Nature and Science). In 2003, I received a permanent position in the UCA (Biochem. & Mol. Biol) and led a project funded by the Spanish Government to study the function of the autoantigen ZNF330/NOA36. This led to a doctoral thesis and two articles published in BBA-MCR and PlosONE. In 2012, with the implementation of the degree in Biotechnology in the UCA, I started a collaboration with the “Biological & Enzymatic Reactors group” of the UCA to optimize E. coli by metabolic engineering for biotransformation processes. This collaboration has led to the supervision of three PhDs, a patent, and nine articles in App. Microb. & Biotech.; Biotech. J.; Microb. Cell Fact. (2); New Biotech. (2); J. of Chemistry; Biotech. Advances; and Algal Research.
