James Michael Brimson graduated from the University of the West of England with a degree in applied genetics in 2006. During his undergraduate degree, he spent a year in the research lab of Prof. Gregorio Gil at Virginia Commonwealth University working on the study of cholesterol metabolism. He then took a Ph.D. scholarship in the UK at the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, the University of Bath, graduating in 2010. His thesis covered the pharmacology of the sigma-1 receptor and identified several novel ligands. He spent several years as a post-doctoral fellow in the lab of Asst. Prof Tewin Tencomnao, where he worked on identifying novel sigma-1 receptor active compounds found in natural product extracts. He is currently a faculty member in the research unit “Research Innovation and International Affairs” at the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Chulalongkorn University. He has been a member of the British Pharmacological Society and is currently a member of the Biochemical Society, ASPET, and ISTAART.
