PhD in Chemistry by Autonoma University of Madrid (1994) and Executive MBA by IE Business School (2001). From 1988 to 1991 he made his doctoral thesis in the Institute of Ceramics and Glass of the Spanish Council for Scientific Research (CSIC). From 1991 to 2008 he worked in the Research and Development Centre of Tecnicas Reunidas, a major Spanish engineering company, where he started as Process Engineer, later promoted to Project Manager and finally to Director of the R&D Centre.
In 2008 he joined IMDEA Energy Institute to launch the Electrochemical Processes Unit, a research group specialized in electrochemical technologies for energy storage and environmental applications. Specialized in applied research, process design and scale-up from laboratory to industrial scale, through the design and operation of prototypes and pilot plants. Expert in technology transfer from laboratory to industry.
current research topics are: Electrochemical Water Deionization; Electrochemical Capacitors; Redox Flow Batteries; Li-ion Batteries; Other Batteries (Al-ion, Zn-Mn and Zn-air); and Battery testing, modeling and lifetime prediction
