Johannes de Bruijn, born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, studied food technology (with a specialization in food chemistry and biochemistry) at Wageningen Agricultural University in the Netherlands between 1984 and 1990. Afterwards, he studied for a master's in biotechnology (with specialization in bioprocess technology) between 1991 and 1993 at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands and Leiden University in the Netherlands. Then, in 1994, he worked on biocatalysis at the Research and Development laboratory of Farma General of DSM-Andeno in Venlo, Netherlands. At the end of 1994, he started his academic career at the Department of Processes and Structures of Agricultural Products at the University of Concepcion in Chile. Between 1998 and 2005, he worked on his Ph.D. studies in chemical engineering with a specialization in food engineering at the University of Concepción in Chile. At this moment, he occupies the position of associate professor in the Department of Agroindustry with the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering at the University of Concepcion in Chile, performing mainly undergraduate and graduate teaching, basic and applied research, and administrative labor. His main areas of interest are food processing and quality attributes, postharvest technologies, and biological separations of fruit and vegetables.
