John A. Hipp is a biomedical engineer with a Ph.D. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School. He has held academic positions at Harvard Medical School and Baylor College of Medicine, and has served as Director of the Spine Research Laboratory at Baylor. Dr. Hipp is the Scientific Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Medical Metrics, Inc. and Medical Metrics Diagnostics, Inc., where he has advanced the development of diagnostic imaging technologies for spine care. He is an author of over 120 peer-reviewed publications and multiple book chapters on orthopedic biomechanics, spinal imaging, and motion analysis. His work has received prestigious awards, including the Kappa Delta Award from the AAOS and the Henry Farfan Award from the North American Spine Society. He holds several U.S. patents in spinal diagnostics and is a member of the ORS and NASS. Dr. Hipp is also a regular reviewer for multiple journals. Research interests include quantitative metrics to reliably assess stability, alignment. Degeneration, and injuries in the spine. These metrics are intended to be biomechanically rational, minimize error, and use reference data from large populations of radiographically normal, asymptomatic volunteers to enhance clinical utility. Many of the metrics are produced using FDA approved artificial intelligence. The work is intended to facilitate development of standardized diagnostic tests for spinal abnormalities.
