Biography

Kate Armstrong (B Med, DCH, MPH, FAFPHM) is the Founder & President of CLAN (Caring & Living As Neighbours – www.clanchildhealth.org), an Australian-based NGO formally associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information for Non-Government Organisations (UNDPI/NGO). CLAN is committed to a rights-based, community development approach to improving health outcomes for children who are living with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and other chronic health conditions in resource-poor settings. CLAN has been supporting Support Groups (Clubs) in more than ten countries for children living with a range of conditions. With a background in clinical and public health medicine, Kate has been involved in the work of CLAN since 2004, and is currently undertaking her DrPH through Flinders University on the challenges facing children living with Nephrotic Syndrome in Vietnam. Since late 2010 Kate has been supporting international advocacy efforts to promote children and adolescents, and more recently, the voices of Indigenous Peoples within the global NCD discourse. In 2011 CLAN served as the Inaugural Secretariat of NCD Child (www.ncdchild.org), and as founding Secretariat for IndigenousNCDs (www.indigenousncds.org) since 2018. Kate works as a Public Health Physician in Australia, and is proud to work as a Public Health Medical Officer for the Aboriginal Health & Medical Research Council (AH&MRC) of New South Wales (NSW).
